It's definitely not anything that will make or break your enjoyment with the game.

This was originally supposed to hold me over until Skyrim, but by the looks of it; I'm going to still be playing a lot of this even when I do get Skyrim. It's going to be tough, because both RAGE and Skyrim are games in which you need to spend a lot of time with to fully enjoy.
    Goodbye in advance.

Only thing I can't tell about Rage is if it is TRULY open world in the way that Fallout is, or if it's open world in the way that something Fable is.

I'm still gonna get it, I just hope it's wide open world, not just a huge world where you can only walk and drive through alleys and siphoned off areas of the wilderness/cities etc.

RAGE defines 'open world' in a much more unique way.

You could say it's like Fallout; only in RAGE there would be more going on in the same amount of space. In Fallout, while the game is big, there's really not much going on outside of the towns. It's mostly walking around through a barren landscape with not much to do aside from kill things. It's basically the same in this game, only there will be a lot more to do than just walking around like in Fallout.

That's why the vehicles are in RAGE; there will be a lot of land to cover, with a bunch of establishments, camps, and tunnels, to explore.

Remember, this game has been in development since 2005. There will be a lot going on here.

I'm just still not sure since all the videos I see are driving through canyons, which could easily be canned areas to drive though between towns, cities, etc. I never see someone driving through a huge expanse of land.

If it truly is open world though, then that'll just make this more epic

This video shows off more of the scale of RAGE. In basic terms, this is an open world game, there's no question about that. I think what you're talking about is the scale of the game. With the number of manholes, camps, and fortresses in the game, it will make up for any scale that it lacks.

The game is around the size of Fallout, but going from city to city isn't as straight forward as it would be in Fallout. In RAGE, you'll have to drive through canyons and other terrain to travel to other parts of the game. Where as in Fallout, it was simply walk from point A to point B, with no boundaries.

This is what I was referring to when I said that the tunnels, manholes, camps, etc. make up for the lack of vast land you would traverse in games like Fallout or Skyrim.

I honestly don't see the point of having wide open landscapes if there is nothing going, or nothing to accomplish there. That's one of the things I didn't like about Fallout. 75% of the wasteland was just barren, with nothing to do.

I like how creative iD has been with RAGE, and is just combining different elements from previous open world games, and making it their own.

I'll be getting the game on day one, so I'll be happy to clarify how open this game REALLY is. But based on what I've seen, and what iD has been saying, my deductions aren't too far off.

Just be sure to come back and give us your thoughts, I'm already catching flak for not pre-ordering.

I've been lurking around on the RAGE forums on GameSpot, some people managed to get the game early. They said it's AMAZING, and there is tons to do in the game. Some call it the best looking game on consoles right now, even better than Gears 3.

I'll definitely be here to give my thoughts on it. I want to able to at least clock 3-4 hours first.

For anyone wondering, both versions basically run the same. 360 uses 3 disks -- 1 for MP, and 2 for just the SP. 22GB altogether.

However, iD highly recommends that you install the game to your HDD if you're getting it on the 360. PS3 will have a mandatory 8GB install, but it runs on just one disc.

So it's more like: PC > Xbox when installed > PS3 > Xbox when not installed.

Chances are, if you're on Xbox, and don't install the game, you'll experience pop in issues. But iD said that it's not mandatory, just recommended.

I pre-ordered it for my 360, but I may or may not change it to the PS3. Nothing has been stated, aside from being one disc, that makes it better.

I'm picking the game up tomorrow when I'm done with class no questions asked, I know it's gonna be good, I was just wondering if it was Fallout type open world. I know it seems to pointless to have a giant open world with nothing in it, but I just love... walking through it all. I'm not sure what it is, I just think it's awesome.

I'll definitely share my thoughts on the game as well Tuesday afternoon.

Don't have any tests or anything this week, so it's gonna be a good videogaming week

I might've been a little wrong after all. On the Rage forums on GS, they say the game is big, but not as open as Fallout. My comparison to the original Crysis was more accurate. Sorry about that.

While the game isn't on the same scale of Fallout, there are still tons of places to explore. I was on Xbox Live, and the RAGE Inside the Xbox video has got me even more pumped. The co-op also looks good. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Stupid question. How do you install it on the 360? Is there an option in the game menu? Or is it something you do from the Dashboard?

When you first put a game in, go to 'Game details' by pressing the Y button, and you should see the option of installing the game. You could also go 'Game library' and doing it like that.

It's a FPS with a few RPG elements thrown in. You can level up your weapons, talk to people, craft ammo, turrets, and other machines, and of course you can explore various places.

Okay that sounds decent enough I might have to pick this game up later this week and give it a shot and see how the reviews shake out first.
