Games that will flop

Dark Souls
This game has been getting so much hype it's amazing to me. All I've been hearing from the devs is how hard this game will be. That's fine, I love hard games, but gameplay and the story should be your main focus, not how much hair you can cause gamers to pull out. I can see Dark Souls scoring a 7.5/10, much less than Demons Souls.


Gears 3
I'm definitely not seeing anything special with this one. I tried so hard to get into Gears but it's really bland and defines mediocrity for me. Nothing amazing stood out to me with the Gears 3 gameplay, versus a game like Uncharted 3 which will be amazing. Gears 3 will be an 8.5/10. That won't mean it's a bad game, but the score I think it'll get, won't match up with its hype.


Madden 12
I actually played the demo, and it felt almost exactly like Madden 11. The only thing I think will save this game will be the franchise mode, but that's not enough to convince me to buy it this year, I'm passing. I think Madden 12 gets an 8/10.


Battlefield 3
Just your run of the mill FPS this time. This game is supposed to be the best looking game ever, graphically. But judging by the PC gameplay, it doesn't even look as good as Crysis 1, maybe even Crysis 2. I'm really not impressed, considering how I heard FrostBite 2 would be so amazing on a technical level. 8.5/10

These are just my opinionated picks. Feel free to post a few games that you think won't be as good as everyone thinks.

If for no other reason than their respective communities won't allow them to, barring a catastrophic disaster on launch. I'm talking more so from a reception POV. Gears 3 is expected to be a high scoring game/GOTY candidate. If it scores below a 9/10, it's clearly a flop as it didn't live up to expectations. Same with BF3, especially from a graphical standpoint.

I don't really put much stock in who gives what game what review, I stopped reading reviews a long time ago. So I'm not really sure what standards they'll be judged at, but I could see them both getting a free ride and hitting 9/10s without too much trouble, simply because both games already have a well-established and successful formula that'd make it hard for them to truly mess up.

i religiously bought madden every year from 95 - 2001

since then i have bought it 3 times i think. it got old buying it every year and having it be virtually the same game just with a few different features.

so now i will buy it once every 4 or 5 years or so lol

2008 was the last one i bought, i am almost due.

I think BF3 will "flop" in the minds of fans if it is more closely related to Bad Company 2 and not BF2.

I hope they fix the ranking in BF3. I dont think BF2 or BC2 got it "right". It seemed there was no real reason to rank after 25 or so.

Unfortunately, I think LoZ: Skyward Sword will be considered a "flop."

Based on the previews, trailers and everything I've seen, it looks like Nintendo still hasn't fixed major flaws in the franchise. This just looks like they're just trying to milk the franchise even dryer, without doing much different.

I don't like the modified control scheme, the graphics look incredibly out-dated, and yet again, no voice acting. It looks like the same old Zelda shovel ware they've been putting out.

This is why Nintendo is going to crap out altogether sooner rather than later. They're too focused on trying to change how we play games, rather than changing the games themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Zelda franchise, I'm just sick of seeing the same thing over and over again with little variation.

This game and it's makers, have been pissing me off FOR YEARS!

I was an early adopter of Battlefield 2 (BF 2), expecting it to be an improvement of everything they did correctly in Battlefield 1942 (BF 1942). I was wrong, very wrong.

I've been lucky enough to be friends (4-7 of us depending on who's in town) with a group of people who have been avid PC gamers for about 15 years now. We've had the opportunity to play as a team holding off a Horde of Germans in Africa, with booze and cigars circulating all the while. Then we were Germans in an air raid, flying high above the skies planning a parachute route when one individual (who would later actually go on to join the Air Force special forces) jumped out of the plane prematurely and ending up in a river (no, he'll never live it down). These were parts of some of the best nights of my life. Do you know what made this possible?

BOTS!

Put bots in your game, if they're not there and able to be added to any game you just don't have a finished product. Battlefield 2 only after it was pretty much done got bots. Battlefield 2142 didn't have bots the last time I checked, then again it was a while ago because I stopped caring. Battlefield 3? NO BOTS, NO BUY!

I'm glad you want me to interact with the community of the internet. The problem is that I DON'T WANT TO. The populace of the world, by and large, SUCKS. I know this, I've been to England, Athens, Paris, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and who hasn't been to Tijuana. By the standards of the internet the world is filled with cursing 10 year-olds who think they know it all. I don't want to play with these people (who we've named Troggs), they ruin MMO's they even ruin co-op games. Give me bots.

To make matters worse. Battlefield 3 will be attached to an Origin account (on PC anyway). I will not be able to download it on Steam, a service that has been good to me and that I support whole-heartedly. There is an argument just saying "just set up another account, it's no big deal." In a small way they are right, it isn't a big deal, if I didn't already have umpteen bajillion other accounts accross the internet. Message boards, services like netflix, email accounts, hell I have accounts to pay my damn utility bills and I'M SICK OF IT! I want less accounts! It's pathetic that I need to have a darn excel spreadsheet for my darn ID's and passwords. Hell, even my damn job wants me to update my password every 30 days.

As for graphics like that?



Yes, it is gorgeous but that tells me you decided to put your full efforts into making it pretty, making it shiny, to attract the legions of troggs. I learned a long time ago that looks aren't everything. The rule applies to videogames too. DICE (the developers of the Battlefield series) only has so many resources, just looking at it, a lot of those resources went into how the game looks, with what's left going into how the game PLAYS among a myriad of other things. Combine this with EA's game plan of buying successful game studios and making them churn out games until they've squandered their reputation (it's happening to Bioware as we speak, they used to put out a game every 4-5 years you know). I don't want anything to do with this game, which is sad because I was a loyal customer and the target demographic.

No way BF3 flops. All I care about is the MP, and the amazing vehicular combat. That's what puts it way above CoD and on the level of fun I had with Halo. Bad Company 2 MP was an ass load of fun because of the giant maps and the epic vehicle battles, and by the looks of it I'm gonna be getting more of the same, and I can't complain about that.

I can almost guarantee that BF3 won't be an AAA game. It looks AVERAGE, with graphics that fail to impress. They spent too much time trying to pump up the graphics, and less on the gameplay.

Fail. You rate the games 7.5 - 8.5 then say they will fail? Sorry Madden will not flop, nor will Gears 3. The other two I do not know enough about. I am not a fan of the gears games but they have a MASSIVE following. Both games will sell and make millions.

The term "flop" isn't in context with how good the game will sell, but what they will score in terms of living up to their hype and expectations. I already said the scores have nothing to do with how good the games will or won't be, and not how many copies they'll sell. It's all about reception, that's what I'm referring to.

Gears 3 is hyped as an AAA game which are top quality titles, so 9.0 to 9.9 is the expected average score for Gears 3. If it scores an 8.9/10 or lower, it's a flop in the sense it didn't live up to the expectations of being a sequel of an AAA franchise.
