I feel I should have grown up in the 70s and 80s. I just saw an infomercial for a show called The Midnight Special. Apparently it would have been my favorite show if I was alive then because it played nothing but great music. I'm 23 and don't even listen to modern music, I personally think 99% of it is crap, i always got my radio tuned to classic rock. Been watching videos of this great show on youtube. Whats impressive is they hit just about every genre there was and even have the occasional stand up comedy from some very huge names. If your like me and never heard of this show check it out!

Man, I want to know what modern music you all are listening to that sucks so bad.
If it's top 40 radio stuff, then that kind of music sucks in pretty much every decade. Basically the only good things to come out of the 70s were Led Zeppelin (and other classic rock, but it's a "genre" that undoubtedly got stale), The Carpenters, and John Denver. Other than those 3 (and a few others), the 70s is basically an abomination to music.

I know, venture outside mainstream radio stations that air the same plastic songs on repeat and look further than the iTunes store Top 100 before deciding that the modern era of music is crap in it's entirety. Consider the sheer quantity of material out there, too. Of course a lot of it will be garbage when there's just so much being produced and when pretty much anyone can do it now, if they have the will and a few bucks.
There was a lot of great, classic music from back in the day. But I'm sure there was a lot of crap too that's been forgotten, like most bad pieces of music are (and honestly, there are quite a few songs and bands that are referred to as "great" simply out of sentimental value).

If so, and if you don't know of them already, check out Andrew Jackson Jihad. Youtube some stuff, it's raw and fantastic.
