A lot of people wont be liking it. It was really all over the place, and pretty typical of England. You probably have to get Danny Boyle, but it really does encompass a wide variety of English and world culture. Both classic and contemporary.

It was good....sometimes I think there is way too much emphasis on trying to outdo previous events, while forgetting what the purpose is. For me, the purpose is to give the host nation some deserved recognition, keep it interesting, and then showcase the athletes. And in this case, the host nation has a lot to be proud about. In my books, this country has made an amazing impact on the world. Among other triumphs, I for one love their music, humour and pride. And the Royalty is fine in my books. In fact, the Queen never ceases to amaze, as she keeps on showing up, and sitting through long programs, and she does it very well at her age! Most of us would be happy to know we could show that kind of strength and endurance when we reach her age.Last edited by CanDB; 07-28-2012, 10:54 AM.

I think I am a bit biased, since my ancestry roots trace back to a small town in England called Trelewis.
Yes, always a big fan of the Monty Python movies and that type of humor. They certainly in many ways, lead the world in artistic taste. Dating back to Shakespeare, who was cutting edge back then if you understood the strict rules of neo-classicism in the rest of the European world at that time.
Yes, it sort of all relates to all of that. They did an outstanding job of crediting the working class, along with the elite class. Rather than ridiculing one and glorifying the other (like we tend to do here, when entertainment perpetually crushes the upper class) they showed how all worked together to forge a great nation that has contributed to the world.
Yes, I did take that from what I saw. Again, maybe biased. Maybe.Last edited by Orangeisback; 07-28-2012, 02:51 PM.
