  • Drake says he is the 1st person to successfully rap and sing.

Drake makes a bold statement during an interview with The Jewish Chronicle.

Drake isn't the first to fuse singing and rapping into his songs, but he considers himself the first person to be successful at it. During an interview with The Jewish Chronicle, the Young money rapper made the claim that he managed to one-up previously successful artists with the style.

"There were people who incorporated melody before me," said Drake, "but I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing."

Drizzy says that his singing-meets-rapping style has had a trickledown effect in the Hip Hop community. "Yes, there are aspects of it that are new in the rap world. But it's not a gimmick. I just sort of exist and people embrace it. I'm one of the few artists who gets to be himself every day. It doesn't take me six hours to get ready and I don't have to wake up in the morning and remember to act like this or talk like this. I just have to be me. That's one of the favourite parts of my life - I've done this purely by being myself."
I am a Drake fan, but cmon man! Ever hear of a dude name Phonte?

It doesn't count as singing when you use auto-tune. Drake sucks. He's not even good at the rap part.

Missy Elliott rap and sang successfully before Drake came out.

Queen Latifah has been nominated for 5 Hip Hop songs (winning once), a traditional pop album and a jazz album.

And then there's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which won 5 Grammys.

Uh oh, almost forgot Wyclef. Thank God you aren't on the Fugees, Drake.

Of course we have the aforementioned Phonte.

Cee Lo Green says F You.

Hey now, what about Andre 3000?

If you want to get technical, Old Dirty Bastard & Biz Markie were "successful" before Drake.

I'll agree that he's the first to successfully rap and sing between him and 50 Cent.

          Drake... you stupid.

Sadly that's true, but to make it worst he wasn't even the best actor/actress on the show.

Wow...he's an idiot. His "singing" isn't real singing (especially since it's autotuned and mostly just talking). Also, there have been plenty of people come out rapping and singing well before drake even got on TV.

Anybody else like how that article that was posted says "but I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing.", but just before that says "previously successful artists with the style." So, if he's the first successful one at it then how did he best other successful ones at it?
