  • Far Cry 3

For those who purchased the new Far Cry, how is it? I'm a huge Far Cry fan and I'm thinking about picking it up soon. Before I drop money on it, I would like to hear some pros and cons about the game. Thoughts? Thanks!

Man, I personally apologize for not seeing this thread.

The game is awesome. It seems to be very long so it's definitely worth the money, though I got it with my new graphics card, so it only cost me like $250, still worth it I think. Graphics are awesome, all the guns are cool, and the game is huge. There seems to be a main island which is very big, and some other smaller islands which I haven't unlocked yet. The story is great, and there are a lot of good characters. In Far Cry fashion there are many different ways to play. I'm going stealth mostly, as the game has a few cool stealth things, like the bow and arrow. Stealth is tough though, the AI is pretty smart, and it's difficult to knife takedown a guy and not be seen, and when you kill them at range like with the silenced sniper, they are on you in a flash. That would probably be my first con.

Other than that, there is too much money in the game. I haven't even covered 3 quarters of the main island and I have almost everything bought. Not a big deal, but it's kinda lame. I'm really tired of getting killed by animals. There is "hunting" in the game, but really the only thing that gets hunted is you. Get even a little bit close to a Tiger, Leopard, Komodo Dragon, packs of dogs, Cassowary birds, etc and they will hunt you down like they haven't eaten in years. And if you defend yourself with a non-silenced weapon and you're usually covered in angry pirates in a minute.

I would definitely get it if you were thinking about it though. A 9/10 game for sure. I would probably give it game of the year over Halo 4 actually, and I'm a huge Halo nerd.

This game is totally badass. I picked it up yesterday and haven't been able to put it down, it's incredible. I'm with you too, I'm going with more of a stealth approach as well. I had to take out a group of 4 pirates, and I was able to get rid of all of them without being detected using only my bow and knife, and of course rocks! I thought it was pretty sweet. This is by far and away one of the more better games I've played in a while, I keep finding more and more cool things each time I play. Game of the year worthy, without a doubt.

Lol I bought a new graphics card on newegg for black friday that supposedly includes a copy of the game. Unfortunately it's a gift to myself for Christmas and is wrapped up under my tree...I get pissy every time I see it.

I'm Glad to hear it, I was a huge fan of the original Far Cry and think everything since then has been pretty lame. Crysis was good until the aliens showed up, but the party was over once they did. Unfortunately my war on EA has reached new heights and I will probably never play Crysis 2.

I would buckle down and give Crysis 2 a playthrough if I were you. I think Crysis 1 is better, but Crysis 2 is arguably the best SP corridor shooter I've played this gen and that's saying something coming from someone who doesn't like corridor shooters at all.

Far Cry 3 has been getting good ratings everywhere, but I decided to skip it because of how disappointed I was with Far Cry 2. The game looks good but I also thought Far Cry 2 looked good as well, so I'm not taking the chance yet.

So far my GotY is probably Dishonored.

Glad you like it, I love the rock throwing too! I wish there was more assignable slots for syringes and custom arrows.

Have you cleared an outpost with a caged animal yet?

How didn't you guys like Far Cry 2?? Sick explosions, spreading fire, it was a good game. I think I love that game just for the sound the grenade launcher makes. Pretty amazing game if you ask me for one of Ubi Montreal's first efforts. Fortunately Crytek and EA have no hands in this game, which is probably why it's so good, Ubi Montreal outdid themselves.

Dishonored was great but it's not comparable. Too short, too linear, horrible ending(s). Points for rats and originality though.

I simply couldn't get immersed and I found it really boring in the end (never finished it). On the other hand, I still had a blast with Crysis 1 which is probably because the suit made the game more unique to me and it had more variety. Stealth was actually possible in Crysis 1, so that could be it.

And while I respect your opinion, I completely disagree on Dishonored. My first playthrough took me around 15 hours and that's without doing all the side-quests and finding all the collectibles. It was hard as hell, but I managed to beat the game without killing anyone.

I also didn't find it linear at all. I thought it had enough explorable areas, side-quests, and ways to infiltrate a building to keep it fresh. The endings weren't amazing, but they at least had closure.

Ultimately, the diverse gamplay and replayability was enough to be a GotY candidate for me. Dragon's Dogma and AC3 make it tough, for sure.

Yeah now that I think about it my stealth playthrough in Dishonored took quite a while. They also did a good job giving you play options, the masquerade is a good example, but there was always an obvious approach. Like when you poison/swap the glasses of wine. There's absolutely no reason to kill them both besides just watching them die. Nothing is gained. My second playthrough I flew through and just butchered everyone, stop time + sticky bomb was fun, and of course rat swarm.

I just got a huge sniper rifle in FC3 that shoots explosive rounds and makes guys ragdoll when you shoot them. New favorite weapon I love the characters in the game too, which is a big step up from FC2, where you could just be talking to the same person over and over and you wouldn't tell the difference.

There's so many things that I've done and there's so many things that I haven't done yet! Plain and simple, this game is reckless. I have a few questions: How do you get shark skin? I tried to kill a shark, but I wasn't able to do anything - no escape animation and I wasn't able to use my knife, so I just died haha. Also, where are hunting missions? I've only been able to find one so far.

Sharks are tricky. The north coast of the island is probably easiest. You can stand on some rocks or parts of a sunken ship and hit them with arrows. Once in the water, you really can't defend yourself. Just make sure it's clear before you jump in and skin them. Hunting missions unlock when you capture outposts.

Between the draconian DRM and the fact that I LOVED the original playing it on a friends' console for about 20 minutes when it came out was more than enough to be okay with passing on it. The funny thing is, I own it on Steam and had the desire to give it another go when you mentioned this...Unfortunately they have not removed the SecuROM DRM from it yet so I gave up right then and there.

On another note, has anyone tried the co-op campaign? What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks man I appreciate it. I didn't realize sharks came so close to shore, so I took them out with my trusty bow. I'm starting to really get a full grip on the bow, I'm turning into Daryl from the Walking Dead!

The map editor is pretty dope, I just wish you could have AI, vehicles, and weapons throughout the map. I spent like 6+ hours making this map, only to have to take out all of those things. What's the point in giving us that option if you can't even use it online?

So why can't you play? Need the DVD? Just use a no-cd from gamecopy world or something.

I've heard compared to the rest of the game the co-op is kind of weak.

It's pretty cool I only messed with it some, now that I know that about it I may not play with it again lol. I also use the bow almost exclusively, though I try to get as many takedowns as possible.

I think I'm almost to the end but I dunno, still seems like there could be a lot of game left. Takes some interesting twists. Also, there's some really surprising and uhm... adult... scenes in this game I certainly love me some Citra

Cuz the 360 version is off the chain and the AI are super realistic

Best game I've played in a longgg time, love it!
