Since the first of the year, I have read Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel, The Burning Land by Bernard Cornwell and A Thief of Time by Tony Hillerman.

Cryptonomicon has been described as the ultimate geek novel. I'm not very geeky and there was a lot of math and cryptography that went over my head, but the story was great; a combination of WWII and the .com boom of the Nineties. My future son-in-law gave it to me after I had a conversation with him about Alan Turing.

I had been given The Monuments Men in 2009 by my daughter and a friend for my birthday, but hadn't finished it then. When I saw the trailers for the movie, I got it out and read it in time for the opening of the film.

I'm a big fan of Bernard Cornwell, especially the Sharpe's series. My wife gave me The Burning Land for Xmas. It is the fourth in The Saxon Tales series about Anglo-Saxon England under attack by the Vikings. There are two more just waiting; great stories.

When I was in the rehab hospital, an old friend (and Bronco fan) brought me a half dozen hardback Tony Hillerman novels. The murder mysteries solved by Navajo Tribal Policemen Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee take me into the Four Corners on the Land between the Four Sacred Mountains and Dine culture. I'm now reading Sacred Clowns. Makes me want to go to the rug auction in Crownpoint.

My friends have kept me supplied with reading material during my non-ambulatory period. :thumb:

I really want to see that movie, was the book good as well? Might be something I have to pick up.

Eight members of my family accompanied me to see Monuments Men on Feb. 8. We all liked it, but we are all art lovers, too. Several of us are WWII movie fans as well.

I thought the movie captured the spirit of the non-fiction book. I wrote a post on the movie on the "last film I saw and rate it" thread. The film dramatized and compressed as Hollywood will do.

The book was very good from an historical point-of-view; had notes and bibliography. Edsel may have written another on Southern Europe focusing on art preservation efforts in Italy.

Well finished my reread of the way of kings and figured I would give brandon sandersons mitosis a shot since I knew it was a short one for him and well it was short much shorter than I thought it was going to be. 36 pages but overall it was a fun little book to read and give a little more of the world of the reckoners series.

Thinking I might start patrick rothfuss' the name of the wind since I was recommended it but its a long one so I'm hoping I can have it done in a couple weeks

The Name of the Wind was a little on the long side so I decided to start Storm Front (#1 of the Dresden Files) I know someone on here said they were good books and my wife likes them so I figured I would give them a start and read the first one. So far it isn't to bad but I'm only like a third of the way into it

Just read a teen book called Divergent. I read it because my 15 year old son needed to read it and i loved it!
Its an easy read. It's a dystopian future book with a strong female lead. The movie is comming out on March 21st.

I've heard good things from that book I might check it out in the future, and I believe three books are out already. Don't know if that is all of them or if it is going to be a longer series.

I've been tempted to check it out. The previews for the movie made me think Hunger Games and I love stories like that (Hunger Games, Enders game, ect...) I may have to check it out if I ever get some free time (ya right!) I'm not even sure how I'll find time for any sanderson books much less any other series.

And I just finished Storm Front last night. It was a decent book. I would give it 3.5 stars out of 5. It was an interesting read but I knew who the main villian was since the beginning, but I will continue the series so see how it improves as I heard that it does which is good. And I got it done in time to begin my next book tomorrow

                      Next on the list:

Words of Radiance - By Brandon Sanderson

Things that I am alternating reading for school and/or pleasure:

Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and in Light by Patrick McGilligan
The Zen Teachings of Bodhidharma translated by Red Pine
Satan Is Real: The Ballad of the Louvin Brothers by Charlie Louvin
Cold War, Cool Medium by Thomas Doherty

Needless to say, it is hard to focus when trying to read four different books.

Yeah I wouldn't be able to do that with four books. Heck I probably couldn't do that with two books. It was one of the reasons I elected to read Storm Front over Name of the Wind. Just so I could be done in time for Words of Radiance which I feel like I'm moving so slowly through it lol.

Granted the book only came out on the fourth, but I'm only like 360 pages into it out of the 1107. But already have been some good parts in part 1 of the book. Part 2 seems to be dragging a little but it seems like it is starting to pick up a little as most the characters are in the same area now.

I recently read Paddle Your Own Canoe by Nick Offerman (the guy that plays Ron Swanson on Park and Recreation).

If you're into comedic biography type books, this one is for you. I found myself laughing out loud through most of the book.

So I made it through Words of Radiance, and I will say it was a great book. If you like fantasy you will probably like this series. This book showed great growth of characters including Shallan who I wasn't the biggest fan of in the first book. But while you wished characters would communicate more the reasons for them not fit their characters. The book also had several great parts in throughout the book. Which means now I'm stuck waiting till the next book lol.

I will say that I do recommending reading Warbreaker as their is somethings from that book that find their way into this book, but they are minor so not a big deal to read as not much comes in the way of it.

Also the climax I would equate it to the Tower scene on steriods plus some
