I've finished several books in the last few months. Read books one and two of Brent Weeks Lightbringer Saga. Just finished Warbreaker a few days ago. I'm beyond sad that I have to wait for more Cosmere books...Sanderson needs to write faster!

Been getting some reading done this summer. In the process of reading a biography about Zachary Taylor written by Josh S.D. Eisenhower. A little heavy on military strategy for me, but not bad.

Finish reading The Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear (books 1 and 2 of the kingkiller chronicles). Pretty solid books and I would probably give them both 4/5 stars. The books are a story inside of a story. The book starts off with a guy in an inn and a scribe that comes into town looking for a legend and the most wanted man alive. There is a war going on because of a guy name Kvothe.

But the scribe heard rumors that he was still alive and working at an Inn and he just wanted to get the life story of this legend. And that is pretty much what goes on it gives the life story of Kvothe with some breaks that brings it back to the present which really seems to make you wonder how much of the story is really true. Makes me think of Unusual Suspects.

This a fantasy book and has some godo writting but there were some slow parts that really slowed the pace down, but it also seems Pat has the writting speed of GRRM which means the 5th book won't be out till the end of next year or maybe the end of 2016 lol.

Now to debate where to go from here. I will probably finally pick up Elantris and TES and finish off the cosmere. Also looking at bloodsong, the books I already have on my shelf (Dresden books 2-6 and the Game of thrones books 1-4), and the serpent world series, and possibly taking on some of the Halo books. Will probably take a little break before making a decision though.

Little new flash for ya, the Taos town council just voted to change the name of Kit Carson Park to Red Willow Park. Apparently we are atoning for past wrongs and acknowledging those who were politically incorrect by present standards is a start. Did you know Kit Carson was a Mason?

Just like George Washington? I did not know that. Carson was just following General Carleton's orders. Wonder how he would have done in the Wehrmacht in WWII? :2cents:

The Pagan Lord by Bernard Cornwell The latest in the Saxon Tales series.

"The Art of Racing in the Rain," (Garth Stein) for anyone that has ever loved a dog.

An amazing perspective on what life looks like through the eyes of our four legged friends. Incredible perspective by the author, it will make you cry but you will forever be glad you read it. :thumb:

Custer's tactic was to divide his force in order to prevent natives from escaping the attack. After the action, Custer didn't collect Major Elliot and his detachment who were subsequently wiped out. Captain Benteen never forgave Custer which may partly explain his action, or lack of it at Battle of the Little Big Horn eight years later.

Interesting contrast between Custer (finished last in his class at West point) who got himself and his command massacred, and the illiterate Carson who fought the first Battle of Adobe Walls with a smaller command against as large a force and managed to extract his forces with few losses.

I just finished the book "Gone Girl" about an hour ago. It is the first novel I've picked up that was more than 400 pages, that I read through in a couple days.

I picked it up for two reasons. It was number 1 best-seller, and when I flipped it over it said "terrifying" - that was enough for me.

It was not at all terrifying. I mentioned this to one who replied that's because you're morbid. Whatever.

However, it is one of the best novels I've read in sometime. Very sick and twisted, lots of manipulation. If anyone remembers "War of the Roses." This takes that to a whole new twisted, sick, level. It was a great book.

Yeah I need to get on those I will probably move them up the list to sit right behind Name of the Wind since that will probably take me a while since I slowed my reading pace way down to a couple hours a week. But I have heard great things from Emperors soul.

It's so loosely tied to elantris. You could read it stand alone, however Elantris is a good book.

Elantris is a good book, I've finished it. Emperors soul is super shorts. like 100ish pages.

Elantris is a good book, I've finished it. Emperors soul is super shorts. like 100ish pages.

Good luck with your novel. I may have creative ideas but I could never transfer them to words on a page lol.

But yeah I don't know why I am putting off Elantris so much. Doing that puts off Emperors soul since they take place on the same planet. I should really knock those two out since I don't believe either are to long.

I know you dig native american history, so i'll ask: have you read Thom Hatch's book Black Kettle : The Cheyenne Chief Who Sought Peace but Found War ?

I obtained a copy from our excellent ABQ/Bernalillo County Library System and just finished reading it. Thanks for recommending this excellent book. I learned much about this truly great man. It is a sad story at times; very unpleasant to read. It is good to know that National Monuments devoted to him and his people have been established in Oklahoma and Colorado.

Thom Hatch has filled a gap in my knowledge of the West. I shall read more of his books. His non-fiction is very easy to read while adhering to standard methods of documentary notation.

I am creative and have good writing skills but i don't know how it will turn out. I have a detailed outline for characters weapons, magic system, and story. I have the first chapter started and have mapped out where I'll go from there.

This is mainly just to sharpen my writing skills for school. If something comes of it great. If not, life goes on.
