      Apparent heroin overdose.
Was found with needle in his arm.

Drugs are no joke and are the cause of a lot of celebrity deaths. May he rest in peace and prays to his family and friends.

          sad to hear this

I first heard of this guy before I saw him act and I saw his picture and thought - wow this is the guy who is so loved for his art?

He really was great at his craft and the world will miss him

Such a shame - Heroine's hooks root deep. He likely never did overcome his addictions from his school days completely. A disgusting habit that I have seen close up- friend-

Hopefully this scares someone straight - somewhere

Once you go to the needle, you likely aren't coming back, so I guess this was inevitable. One of the greatest actors of this generation, my condolences go out to his family, especially his kids.

Sad. One of my favorite actors. Love his movies and the roles he plays. Definitely a big loss for the movie industry.

Awesome actor. Many great performances. I think the very first movie I saw him in was Twister, playing the obnoxiously funny 'Dusty'. "Foood......FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD"

                  RIP.

If any good can come of it... here's hoping it does help someone.

                      - Aaron Sorkin: Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death Saved 10 Lives -

"Phil Hoffman and I had two things in common. We were both fathers of young children, and we were both recovering drug addicts. Of course I’d known Phil’s work for a long time — since his remarkably perfect film debut as a privileged, cowardly prep-school kid in Scent of a Woman — but I’d never met him until the first table read for Charlie Wilson’s War, in which he’d been cast as Gust Avrakotos, a working-class CIA agent who’d fallen out of favor with his Ivy League colleagues. A 180-degree turn."...

The West Wing creator and recovering drug addict remembers the late and great actor, fondly reflecting on the empowering pow-wows the two would have during filming of Charlie Wilson's War, and finds a silver lining in his overdose
