Anywho...I listen to just about everything....classic rock, rap, 80's crap, reggae, classical, rock...just about everything except country and opera music...but i listen to a lil bit of opera.

thats so me - I hate country - there is a song or two that i can handle but thats about it - as far as opera goes - i dont listen to the music per se - but I really enjoyed myself when I went to the opera (although i needed subtitles )

I like "progressive rock" the best.

Popular bands that fit the genre are Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, Kansas, Dream Theater, Tool, Genesis, Peter Gabriel. etc.

Along with those mentioned I really like Fates Warning, Queensryche, Coheed and Cambria, Pain of Salvation. and Saga.

Reggae is Jamacian, not African - just cause they are black doesnt mean they are african

Actually, hun...there IS African Reggae.

The current "King of Reggae" Lucky Dube comes to mind, (South Africa)

Alpha Blondy (Ivory Coast)

Those are just two, but there are several.

Reggae is truly an International music now.

There is English Reggae (several artists fit this bill...Sizzla, Aswad...)
American Reggae (several bands in this category)
Of course, Jamaican Reggae, (the original)...Culture, Balck Uhuru, Bunny Wailer....the list goes on and on...

There is an old Peter Tosh song that goes: "if you are a black man, you are an African..."

I tend to agree with him.

I grew up in a family that sang all the time. My folks took me to see movies like Funny Girl, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver etc (all first run movies so you know I am old) For a while there, I believed that life was like a musical. I did not know that singing at the drop of a hat was not typical. I got over it.

3rd Grade - Had all the Monkees albums, still do.
6th Grade - First Album I ever bought myself - Jethro Tull - Benefit
Next Album- Led Zeppelin two
That was around when the Beatles broke up. We all thought Yoko was such a biatch!

More albums - Leon Russell (Shelter People), John Mayall (Room to move) Stevie Wonder ( Talking Book) Beatles last album (Abby Road) and so on

8th grade - 14 yrs old - Just missed seeing Led Zeppelin, and then Alice Cooper. I swore, by God, I was gonna see the next show! It was David Gates and Bread, a soft pop band famous for "Baby I'm a want you". Deal is, the opening act was the ONLY tour back in the day of STEELY DAN! They promoted their Cant buy a Thrill album at the demand of the record company. After that it was Katy bar the door! Halloween I saw Wishbone Ash open for the Doobie Bros. Ticket was $4.00
That was the year I lost something that began with a V and ended with a scream. Started other bad habits, too. As time flew by, Leon Russell, Lowell George and Little Feat, Elton John, Taj Mahall, Spirit. My bestest most favoritest show ever, for $5.oo, I had floor tickets and saw Pink Floyd do Dark Side of the Moon. That is a whole thread unto itself. The following week I saw ZZ Top open Mc Nichols ( 25 years later, my same bud and I brought our wives to se ZZTop close mc nichols) I have seen the WHO four times. With a fake ID, I went to the Little Bear, a 120year old saloon in the mtn town of Evergreen an saw this band nobody had heard of out of Detroit, some guy named George Thorogood and the Destroyers. On my 16th birthday, my buds took my to Ebbetts Field downtown to see some band we had never heard of, supposed to be good, called, well pronounced Leh Nerd Skin Nerd.I saw the Rolling stones only once, at Folsom Field in Boulder. Firefall many times, the Eagles 3 times, Crosby, Stills Nash and Young I saw 4 or 5 times, and every time they said "This is the last time!" Huey Lewis and the News at Red Rocks, as well as Pat Benetar, U2, James Taylor, Steven Stills, Crosby and Nash (Save the Whales tour), Allman Bros. ( yes i know dwayne was dead). In 1975, we went to see Joe Walsh ( before he joined the Eagles) at the DU field house. The band that opened for him was Charlie Daniels.
He played a song he had just written and recorded but was not yet released. I was blessed to hear Charlie Daniels play live "The Devil went down to Georgia" the first time I ever heard it. seen Charlie 5 or 6 more times since. I saw the link of Rock and Country in Charlie and in the Eagles. Started to go see Asleep at the Wheel. Ray and those boys could boogy! This brings me up to about 1979.

The Neville Brothers. April Wine. Culture Club with Boy george. The Tubes. Way cool band from Australia, Little River Band. LRB is the best damn band to play any bar or nightclub ever. INXS was awesome live . Cheap Trick. Missed Madonna, but that is when Tickets began to get pricey. And same same when the Stones came back, pricey tickets. Bruce Springsteen wanted 2 weeks of yer pay to see him. The times they were a changin.

There was this punk movement, the Sex Pistols and Sid Viscous(sp). The Ramones. Not much action in real life. Then, it grew, mostly ugly chicks dressed even uglier with black lipstick and such. Misfits who suddenly had a place. Before long, it merged with a bit of the mainstream and became New Wave. Then even good looking girls joined in as it was coopted by the masses. Maddona, Pat benetar, Cyndie Lauper, Adam Ant, Culture Club. You can not understand how hard it was to meet a great looking gal who liked ya, and they way ya danced, and yer current "look", but she was wearing Black lipstick! I remember my Date to the movie by Pink Floyd "The Wall" her name was Cyndie, and she was a waitress at Mr. Lucky's. Fun Night. Never saw her again. They told me she moved to Florida to be near her kid. She never told me about a kid.

I guess I am going on for too long. But here is the deal:

You guys asked for favorite music.

Deal is this: it is a lifelong love affair with music. It is gonna shift, and change, and move. You are gonna grow and learn and listen to new sounds. You are gonna discover old tunes you never heard of that float your boat. (try this one, The Blasters - song- I'm Shakin') You are gonna hear an old Bonnie Rait song, and start to appreciate country rock. There is so damn much good music out there! Your task is to always preserve your youthfull love of music, and explore new genres, and old. Believe me, there is plenty old music out there you aint heard that will rock your world. Try the Stones "Mothers Little Helper" or the Pink Floyd album "Meddle".
