And given that the story is basically told from his point of view I wonder if any of this is even an accurate portrayal of what’s taking place around him. I know it’s a story and all but Joe is a really bad criminal and the people/police around him are completely oblivious
You bring up an interesting plot possibility. It's the old, "what's reality and what's not" consideration. Just like when he was hallucinating...what was real?? Like one of my all time fav series endings....when Bob Newhart woke up and told his wife that he basically just dreamed an entire tv show.

It would make sense for why he was so willing to let him leave and why Will was so easy to not rat him out.

And that weird phone call after where he was so accepting. It felt staged. That part is where it felt off to me.

I do not want to take us off the path of what is acceptable here, but at times I have empathy for the real life Joe's and Forty's of the world, who either have unkind genetics or terrible upbringing. In that sense, even though none of us are perfect, many of us are lucky that we at least had a decent shot, given the dynamics of our genetics/environment. For example, when I think of the kids in our "tougher" part of town, they are so disadvantaged from the get go. It could be drugs, alcohol, or parental neglect (maybe all combined). I never thought of my life that way at all, and yet I wish I was less this, or more that. But imagine your worst trait, and multiply it by 10, or more. Imagine how that could affect your life.

Sorry for the departure. I am not saying I was a fan of Joe, because he is still creepy.....and he should have seeked help. But the world of psychology is interesting to me. I have a business degree, but another year or so and I could have a psych degree as well. Does not make me a genius...it's the interest I have in people and how we tick.

One last thought. On a real life radio show, there is this fellow (as I recall) who was studying the makeup of serial killers, and much to his surprise, when tested, he had the genetics that were in line with what serial killers tend to have. Now, like most stats, the odds are there, but are not necessarily high. Like when they say you are 30% more likely to get a specific disease/illness, but the odds are tiny to begin with. But for me, there is some luck of the draw, and hopefully, lots of opportunity to make yourself a better person, as opposed to blaming it all on other things.

My wife saw an article yesterday that confirmed forty and love is in fact nothing more than tennis score names.

Too bad that they probably never said their names together in the show.....would have sounded funny!

"I'd like to introduce you to, Forty, Love"....or "Love, Forty"

I assume they never reference it on purpose to see if viewers can pick up and decide on their own. And the only subtle hint they give you the entire show is the one weird scene where they are playing tennis together and arguing about who’s life is more messed up.

No kidding....it accidentally hit me a week ago or so, when I was thinking of the names. When I realized it, it seemed so easy to figure out. But I sense that loads of people did not catch it. Thing is, I thought they were super trendy names given how rich they are, plus Mom likes to get high as a kite. Tennis is kind of a rich only factor.

If there's a 3rd season it will be less complicated (name-wise), because there's only Love.....and Joe or Will or whatever he's going to be called...and whoever he's chasing!!!

Don’t put it past them to name the baby Fifteen or thirty. Or even Forty after her lost uncle.
