  • Does watching a video ever ruin a song for you?

Cant think of a specific but many times watching a music video has ruined a song for me - well take any Lil John or Ying Yang song - looking at them is well, yuck - sometimes I finally watch the video and end up not liking the song anymore

Same with books vs. movies - its almost inevitable - I love the book and the movie doesnt come close

    Anyone?

Some videos are really awful... But some other are great and they give a new vision of the song... I liked the video of "Home" from Depeche Mode... really a great video...
I hate Bohemian Rhapsody's video... Simply awful... But I still like the song...

It happened to me about some french songs that I think you haven't hear... I think a video can make a song worse or better... and sometimes, there's no effect..
Just talk slowly please... I'm French

      Hoobastank - The Reason

I really like the song, but after I saw the video, I was left wondering what in the hell I had just watched, and what in the world the song had to do with the video.

Yep I know him... Though I think he's much more well-knowned in UK than in France... There is a single that we hear currently here from him... I don't remember the title... His folk music is not bad...

Where can you watch videos? You mean there's a channel that plays music videos? Cool. What is it's name?

Everybody's gotta elevate from the norm...

The greatest list of music I don't own on CD
You should check these guys out

I havent watched a video for a long, long time.

When I was a teen, I lived in Durango and this place opened up for teens called the 5ft Quarter. They had video games and pool tables and served 3.2 beer, which you only had to be 18 to buy.

The big draw for this place was the new MTV. They showed it on the wall from a projector. MTV was brand new then (1980?). Everyone just sat around and watched it all the time. I admit, at the time I thought they were pretty cool.

But music has changed since then. Rap wasnt born yet really. Nobody really tried to push the bounds of anything. Bands like Men AT Work were big then and there just wasnt that many videos. They were growing though.

I really dont have any desire to watch Brittney strut in some video now. As I see it, music is meant to be heard, not seen. It seems to me today a lot of bands make it on the videos, and not the MUSIC. I hear a lot of what my daughter listens to and she tells me, "But the video is soooo cool!"

I did like Thriller though. Vincent Price at the end is classic. Too bad about Michael, the guy could sing & dance..............

I just try to picture what Mozart would have done if he had this technology available to him.

Lil John and Ying Yang suck anyways; the music video just makes me hate that genre more.

Yep, alot of "music" these days is made specifically for the video. The artist may not have much, if any, talent,*cough, Aslee Simpson, Britney Spears, cough cough* but if they're hot and you can keep them on TRL long enough, kids will go out and buy their albums.

I do like concert videos, but I dont consider them "videos" per se. I would have loved to have been at "The Dance" by Fleetwood Mac! More a movie than a video.
