I guess the main reason is because they brag so much and I cannot stand when people do that. They rap about all their cars and big houses and [email protected] like that... There is really no need for that in music. IMO

Many are all about money and image and that is not what music is about in my opinion.

The things I look for in music is 1)Talent which rap has lyrically but its not hard to make beat... I use to have a drum machine... 2) Energy.. It doesn't seem to that rap has as much energy as Metal music or even bands like Phish..

That is just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

I listen to rap obviously, and i understand what you are saying about the content. I don't like it either when artists talk about money, cars and jewelery, but that's why i listen to artists like Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Outkast and of course 2Pac because they are more of a conscious type of rap. They talk about real issues that go on in the world and not just about the typical bling-bling stuff.

But it's all apples and oranges and it's not a big deal to me if someone doesn't like rap. The world would be boring if we all thought the same way.

Sorry, but rap is not my thing.

I do like 80's music, and their ballards are really powerful!

i love rap, rock is a distant 2nd for me though 'hybrid theory' by linkin park was one of the best cd's ive ever got, also 'whats the story, morning glory' by oasis

anyway, IMO ppl like what they like, we are all different. i just hate it when ppl have to start hating on someone or a type of music just because THEY don't like it, thats weak.

btw - rap is king around the world anyway so i would'nt worry john. eminem is probably the most famous person in music for the last 10 years and now 50 cent and g-unit are DOMINATING charts (50 has #1's in america and around the world nearly every week) - he even had 3 singles in the top 5 a few weeks back

rap concerts sell out in 2 seconds anywhere in the world and get record figures.

also, the death of tupac and his legacy and the way he represented himself is one of the most famous events of the last century in music and ppl know what happened with him and who he was all around the world.

a quick q for ppl who diss rap all the time - which artist/band get the success of 50/em/g-unit around america and the world today? and get as many #1's?

I know there is a lot of swearing and stuff like that in it but you have to respect those that tell it how it is.For example those who rap about police corruption they speak the truth. If a cop in LA sees a black person driving a nice car or even a normal car they'll pull him over in no time at all.Rap is their way of making their voice heard nobody is going to listen otherwise so why not.

and thats the way to be. even if you dont like the music, you gota respect the artist for getting where he or she is. but i myself like rap. i also like rock. those are the only genres of music i listen to.

Right bbj it does nothing for me..........I would compare listening to rap music to getting 2 root canals......And I have had 2 root canals.

You should listen to "Breathe" by Fabulous or "Hate it or Love it" by Gam/50 cent or "Let me clear my throat" by an artist(s) that I do not recall. Plenty of energy there...

I am very curious to see what responses come from this. I expect to see some really good ones too, as many of you are of above average intelligence, IMO.
