The only rocker who I know of who actually claimed to have dabbled in the occult (although, not Satanism outright) was King Diamond.

And I don't know if he meant he did(the person) or if he was speaking in 'character' as King Diamond.

I don't think many bands that have some notoriority are actually satanic. Slayer has said that anyone who takes their lyrics seriously is an idiot. The singer from Possessed said the same thing. Now some of the Scandanavian Black Metal bands are probably the real deal.

King Diamond's fascination with the occult was more evident in his pre Mercyful Fate days with his early bands. He said they had priests after them all the time. I think most people who don't like heavy metal think all the bands are satanic and play the devil's music. It seems like heavy metal is a convenient scapegoat over the past 30 years. Examples: The Ozzy Osbourne "Suicide Solution" case; the Judas Priest backward masking case; M Manson and Columbine; The AC/DC song Night Prowler and Richard Ramirez; Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer having something to do with the West Memphis 3 murders. Ridiculous!

No they are not Satanist nor do they talk about satan. Slayer, Morbid Angel, and many death metal bands are satanic.
