  • "Firefly" airs on the Sci Fi Channel starting Friday, 7/22

Well, for anybody who hasn't seen this series yet and is interested but doesn't want to pay to rent it, the Sci Fi Channel will be airing the entire series starting tomorrow (Friday, July 22nd) at 7pm Eastern, so check your local times. If you miss it, the series is also available on DVD.

Try to watch the shows in order since the stories do sometimes refer to events in previous episodes. It's not generally crucial but it is very helpful.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

(Sorry, I copied half this post from another thread where M-n-G asked me about the show.)

This is my favorite television show in recent memory. The writing is wonderful, the characters are fantastic and more enjoyable as the show progresses, and the effects are actually pretty good considering the budget of a brand new series. The sci-fi / western hybrid nature of this show did not appeal to me before I watched it but I gave it a chance since my wife wanted to watch it. I am SOOOO glad I did because I can't remember the last time I anticipated a show on a week-to-week basis like I did Firefly.

I just might check that show out.

Just so long as it doesn't interfere with Tripping the Rift.

Man, I'm PO'd that they got rid of Gena Gershon as the voice of Six.

They have Carmen Elektra now as her Bring back Gena!!!!!

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

I tell you what, Jared, our movie and television watching has been on a steep decline since having our baby. I can fully understand how you're having trouble finding the time to watch the show. It's difficult to find an hour or two just for ourselves and, when we do, there are many different demands for our attention and TV and movies don't often reach the top of the list.

And when we actually have the happy grandparents babysit for us, it actually feels rather weird to be by ourselves for an extended period and we're constantly having our thoughts turn to our boy.

Anyway, when you finally get the chance to watch the show, I'm optimistic about your enjoying it.

You are lucky you have grandparents around. I know you are sypmathetic. Now, as busy and difficult it is to find time for the two of you, imagine doing it on your own, 2700 miles away from your family. (Ok, my sister in law lives 3 hours away, but she is an ER intern....she is worked like a pack mule).

Then, imagine adding the stress of needing to find out WHERE in Iraq the latest attack was........

            Welcome to my world.

But I think I will enjoy the show when I get a chance.

I think everyone already knows what my response is to this.

              It's a friggin great show.

Make sure you watch every episode!

It starts off a little slow at first because it spends alot of time establishing things but by episode 5 it really takes off and builds on itself very well. Character development, dialog, directing, storylines, music, ect ect It doesn't get much better than Firefly. The concept of a Sci-Fi Western seems awkward at first but it works wonderfully.

              Give it shot.

Plus you have to see Firefly so you have a better idea of what's going on in Serenity, the movie version of the show that comes out Sept 30th!

              Watch the trailer to Serenity

I have already seen the movie at a special screening in Minneapolis and yes, it is BETTER than Revenge of the Sith. Course I didn't think that would be tough to do. I thought Revenge of the Sith was pretty mediocre. Just my opinion.

                BTW

                Is that Thomas Jane?

He was awesome as Frank Castle in The Punisher. When I was younger I didn't read Spider-Man, or X-Men. For me it was The Punisher and I felt that movie was very well done. It sure beat the hell out of Dolph Lundgren's from the 80's.

Aww...The Sci Fi Channel converted the picture to Pan-and-Scan. It was originally filmed in widescreen and shown on FOX in a letterboxed picture. Watching it tonight I was constantly irritated at how parts of the picture were chopped off and the audience was missing some good pieces of the action.

Why would Sci Fi alter the original airing format?

Oh, and some of the scenes were definitely darker than on the DVD. Oh, well, it's better than nothing.

Yeah, it loses quite a bit when watching it that way.

I guess you'll just have to buy the DVDs then, eh?

Wait a sec, didn't you say that you had TiVo? Then you can just buzz right through those commercials. Zip... zip...

I watched it, mainly because its made by the same guy who created Angel, and thought it seemed to be a decent show although i think ill have to watch a few more episodes to get a feel for the series.
