  • HBO's Rome

Are any of you watching this?

It has been on only 12 minutes but I am already loving it. Ancient History, particularly Rome is my specialty. This show is extremely accurate. I didn't expect it to be this accurate. Julius Caesar's real name was Gaius Julius Caesar and throught this show they have called him such. Also the Legions are fighting in the correct way. Also they jiust had Vercengetorix, the leader of the Gauls surrender. It was almost exact to Caesar's own memoirs which I have read plenty of times. It is in my personal library and is a very good book.

        Second Episode was on tonight.

Not too bad... gonna record every episode and put it onto a DVD. It is on again on one of the HBO channels at 10pm Mountain Time.... or 11pm Mountain Time. I have it set to auto-record.

I saw the first 3 episodes. Pretty good. Not as good as Deadwood, but I like the history of the American West more than Roman history, so thats probably why.

I'll be sad when my free preview of HBO is over and I have to wait till the show hits DVD.

If you ever do get HBO, Jared, I recommend you check it out. But do remember that it is set in a time before there were the constraints of Christianity. Polygamy was common - sexuality was expressed so openly. But I'm sure you know that. So when you watch it you will see the overt sexuality of Ancient Rome as well as political intrigue. It is after all set during the Civil War of Caesar - Pompey.

I'm a little surprised we haven't seen gratuitous-shock value-homosexuality yet. Maybe they realize how fad it was becoming in entertainment.

I'm sure you will see that going on soon on the show. At the time period homosexuality was very common. So it wouldn't suprise me if some homosexuality is shown.
