  • What long-running show should be cancelled?

There's quite a few shows airing now that some would say give a new definition to long-in-the-tooth, the kind that either was groundbreaking or popular in its heyday or still is but is past its peak.
Sometimes these long-running shows keep their level of quality or regain it(depending on who you ask) like NYPD blue, others like ER lose it and never regain it.
Taking that into consideration, which shows that have been around five or more seasons should be cancelled/mercifully laid to rest when this season ends?

I'm going to have to say The Simpsons. Back in the 90s it used to be my favorite show by far. Around 2000 though it just simply started sucking. I doubt I've watched a new Simpsons on FOX for 3 or 4 seasons. The writing has been terrible for the most part. How many plot ideas can you have for what, 16 years?

                  hmmm

I absolutley love south park(i own seasons 1-6 and am impatiently waiting for #7) but these new ones there coming out with are just screwed up. i mean Kyles dad turns into a dolphin on one episode WTF? Matt and Trey must be running out of ideas. but i wished they'd go back to being the way it used to be like on the earlier seasons. And another show that shouldn't have been cancled was Beavis and Butthead (i cant wait for the Mike Judge collection to come out)

The 2 new South Parks have been pretty good. I agree there were a couple bizzare ones last season.

Well...if you haven't watched it in the last 3 or 4 years then perhaps you are just responding to the media reports or others opinions or something. IMHO, the last 2 seasons of the Simpsons have been 2 of the best ones in years. I think they have definitely gotten their edge back and put out some great episodes. Admittedly, this season has been awful but they've only aired 2 or 3 episodes so I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

As for what shows need to go, I would have to agree with others that ER and West Wing have outlasted whatever usefullness they may have once had. Also, and this is just personal, but I wouldn't mind seeing every "reality" show (God what a misnomer that is) get the boot along with every Jerry Springer-type freak show.

Simpsons definitely needs to go. I still watch ER now and then, but it wouldn't kill me if they ended that as well.

                              The Simpsons

Definitely Law & Order (all five of them).

                              Cut some of the CSIs...

I think ever since Michael Crichton took on other producers, ER has gone down hill. And it just isn't the same without the original cast.
