Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

Basically he talked about the lack of black athletes in the Winter Olympics maybe being the cause of lack of interest in the Winter Olympics. But, looking at the horrible ratings, he may have a point. I watched Real Sports and have to say that while maybe offensive to others, he was giving a valid opinion.

He's an idiot. I remember on his morning show that he use to be on, he slipped up on his words. I don't know why he's even on the air.
No offense to anyone that religiously watches the Olympics, but I just don't see what all the hype is about, and from what I can tell about what Bronco51 is saying, alot of other people don't see it either. There is an awful lot of news coverage on something no one's really watching to begin with. I'll be glad when its over and the Today Show gets back to the real world. And some black athletes might help the US team a little, cause all the over hyped American athletes we have now certainly aren't living up to expectations.
And BTW, who else thinks that Bodie Miller guy is a jerk!
No......he dissed the Olympics "because" blacks were not involved, as if it's a conspiracy.
The games, in his opinion are irrelevant. (because blacks are not involved)
The Olympics are a scam.
on and on..........................
Well, Mr. Gumbel, I'm sorry that blacks are rarely involved, but, what you fail to understand is that is a matter of personal choice, the Olympics don't care what color or nationality you are.......just as the choice to watch or not watch the games is a matter of personal choice.
I find the games refreshing, when I hear of a Croation skier growing up in poverty and a war torn country having to sell her ski's just to have enough money to go to the next event, having 12 surgeries on her knee's and never giving up and then winning the gold medal it lifts my spirit more than a whiny wide receiver complaining that he can't feed his kids on 40 mil.
Sports in America is far different than sports in other parts of the world, the games can give an entire country a lift. Maybe your just mad because other countries figured out how to play basketball......whatever your reasoning....it has nothing to do with race and more to do with the human spirit than you will ever comprehend.
There is segragation .. there is racism .. then there is this.
This is not segragation. This is not racism. This is a dilusional person talking about a sport. How many black athletes do you think are interested in skiing? How many are interested in the luge? How many are interested in snowboarding? Now here the next question - how many Alaskans are interested in skiing? How many Coloradans are interested in skiing? There you go. It takes have a bit of sense to understand why there are not many black athletes at the Winter Olympics. Race doesn't matter in regards to this. The Olympics are about everyone coming together and enjoying themselves depsite race and nationality. That is what it is meant for. If the best athlete isn't black does that mean it's a sham? If you ask Gumbel then yea it is. If you ask any reasonable human being then no it isn't a sham.
Well I think he was trying to say how irrelevant the games are because people try to compare these games to the old Greek olympics, even though there was no skiing or skating in the original Olympics. The racial thing was not that big of a point in his comments, but as usual, that is what is highlighted. I would be more offended if I was a snowboarder and he called me a pseudo athlete, which he did. And I do agree with him that most of the sports in the Winter Olympics are not remotely considered interesting except for 3 weeks every four years.

It was very clear what he was saying, and very offensive.
How many guys have been fired for making racist comments?
Why this guy gets a free pass is beyond me.
It's only racist if your white. Yeah, I know that's bull but that's the way it is it seems.
I don't know what Gumble was trying to say. It's not like you can get affirmative action in the Olympics. The best athlete's go because they qualify by time, strength, speed, ability ect ect and not by color of skin.
all the over hyped American athletes we have now certainly aren't living up to expectations.
Bingo! This is the main reason why I haven't even been watching this year. I have only caught a couple of hours of it and it mainly was figure skating. I can watch people here in my own town do better than what is being displayed by these so called professionals. It is embarrassing.
WTG to the rest of the world who is more into their sports because it is in their hearts rather than us spoiled Americans looking for publicity or money. So what if the USA doesn't dominate the competitions. But now I am getting off track here and going down a different road.
I did not catch Gumble's comments but it sounds to me like he made some uneducated comments speaking from his own heart. I dunno, but I highly disagree that people are chosen as representatives due to their skin color. That is just hogwash.

I'm not really concerned with what Gumbel has to say on anything. I've never cared for him, his sportscasting or his editorial opinion. As far as not having people of color in the winter olympics, my view is that it's nothing more than what the sports are and the people you normally see partaking in these sports. Watch the winter x games sometime, and tell my how many people of color you see. Not many. Watch the NHL (I don't anymore, the new rules ruined the game, but another topic) and tell me how many people of color you see. Not many.
What concerns me more is that our American athletes are showing us why the rest of the world really doesn't care for America. Take Bode Miller. This guy is supposed to be the second coming of Herman Maier. So what do we hear about? His drinking binges, the fact that given an hour to inspect a race course, he uses all of 11 minutes of it. Then what does he do? DQ's out of two races, and comes in 5th in a third. Next. lets look at Lindsey Jacobellis. Coming down the hill in the snowboard cross finals, we have an almost 4 second lead over second place. Straight shot the rest of the way down, 2 minor jumps to get over. Do we finish it out clean? No....we showboat and fall on our keester, handing the gold off to someone 4 seconds back. I can hear the world laughing as I type. Lastly, lets look at our speedskating "team". Good lord, has anyone ever seen a more dysfunctional group in their lives? These guys make the Shaq / Kobe Lakers look well adjusted.
I agree Mich. These athletes America sent have some major ego issues. Not many of them have even drawn the least bit of interest from me. A lot of the athletes that have lost so far I have been glad to see fail. As long as we send athletes like that to 'represent' this state what do you think the world's opinion will be? One that has really gotten to me is that Apollo Ono (sp?). He races with people and then as soon as someone runs up alongside him in the race - he shoves the person away forcing them to stumble. If that's not cheating what is?!
