death metal vs. "hardcore rap"

me and my friend were talking about this earlier today and so i thought i would post it here.

would you rather have your kid listen to like death metal with all the suicide and/or satanic references or have them listen to the rap were all they talk about is "yo lets go smoke some weed and then we can "get busy and then smoke some more weed and then go join the crips and then shoot some bloods in the head and take there money yo"??????

Liek my parent did, I would listen to them as well, and ask them what the appeal is.


I don't think I would restrict either, as long as my child, like me, could discern between fantasy and reality.


I mean, my seriously Catholic parents didn't like KISS and AC/DC, my mom doesn't even like doo-wop or the Beatles or any secular music(although my dad does). But they let me play "Highway To Hell" and "Creatures of The Night" whenever I wanted, as long as the volume wasn't obnoxious. And as long as I understood that they were just songs, not a course in how to live your life.

My dad actually kinda dug Cinderella's third album, "Heartbreak Station" Said it sounded like the old Rolling Stones.

It pisses me off to the reason they do that so they dont have to take the blame and claim insanity. I play GTA all the time and I dont go on rampages I know the diference between real and fake.

I blame the parents for not taking a more active interest in their lives.

That, and the dad who left the freakin' ARSENAL lying around for his kid to take. Gun owners, get a gun safe. Seriously.

I guess I would let my kids listen to what they want. But I'd want to introduce them to various kinds of music, like my folks did.

And I have found over the years my tastes in music change. I listened to pop most of the way through high school, then got into Country Music.

Switched back to 90's music and some country. Then 70's and 80's music. Some hard rock. I've always like Def Lepord, and now I like the group that does "Photograph" (cant think of their name right now).

But I would want to emphasize, like Jared said, that it is just a song. Same goes with movies. They are not real, just a form of entertainment.

I dont really like either, but Its up to the parent to make that decision. If they think their kid is mature enough to handle the difference between life and art, than yea....

I personally like them both, but I'd rather have my kid listening to metal.

Rap glorifies money and mysogyny. I'd rather have kids listening to songs about Cthulhu and aggro stuff than that.
