Well, I don't know howbto tell you this, but I was reading just yesterday that the author of the graphic novel thinks the screenplay is crap and has nothing to do with the novel.


He actually had to legally fight to get his name completely removed from the movie. Hollywood didn't understand that.


So, if you didn't think the novel was all that, a movie that is drastically altered is probably not your bag.

Now, about Natalie Portman and no hair. Oh well. If you has said "...with no clothes.", I'd have been in line last week.

you dirty old man. well, having seen the movie this afternoon i can promise you "...with a sexy-novelty schoolgirl uniform on." seriously.

didn't know what to expect, but in the end i thought it was a great movie. i almost never look for (or pay any attention to) a moral in movies and books on fictional topics - when i want philosophy i'll read philosophy - rather, with fiction i want no more than to be entertained. however this movie does say a lot of good things about government and the masses. highly recommended.

Yeah... I just felt really good coming out of the movie. Some of that may be attributed to that I really enjoyed 1984 -- and also because the movie was simply very well made.

i just wanted to address a review of V that makes a few points i've seen repeated: 2 quotes will set up what i want to say:
terrorist-supporting, anti-Christian, neo-Marxist, left-wing propaganda
and
a vile, pro-terrorist piece of neo-Marxist, left-wing propaganda filled with radical sexual politics and nasty attacks on religion and Christianity.

ok before i get started let me make one suggestion - i'm going to make a few points that could and often do form entire threads of there own. in order to stay on topic, let's not discuss politics and religion here except as they are reflected in the movie OK?

(1) pro-terrorist? this is complete nonsense. blowing up a building does not a terrorist make - were that the case, one would be forced to classify our US military as terrorists. is it terrorism to drop on bomb on a building in which osama bin laden is hiding? of course not. terrorism involves attacking citizens with the intent to create fear in them in order to, in turn, influence their government. this is something that V, in the movie at least, never does. thus, this particular criticism is simply nonsense. that being said, he was a bit crazy and [SPOILER] did a very bad thing to natalie portman's character [/SPOILER]. a terrorist though, he was not.

(2) neo-marxist and left wing? this is nonsense too. regardless of whether the author of the story is in fact a marxist or intended the story to be pro-marxist, one would have to be braindead (as many, in fact, are) to take this movie as a call for marxism or any other form of left-wing government. if anything, V comes across as a call for a libertarian government - which, insofar as left-wing governments call for a massive centralized state, is as far from left-wing as one can get. i have no doubt that some leftists will take this movie as anti-republican (which it is) and pro-democrat (which it isn't), but that is only because they don't think very well - none of the oppression so strongly demonized in the movie would be possible without the big government so loved by liberals (and sadly, these days, by republicans).

(3) anti-christian? well, the author certainly has a dim view of christians and a positive view of homosexuality. as a largely fundamentalist christian myself i was bored by the "pedophile priest" cliche (pedophile government school teachers anyone?) and thought the movie would be better served, in terms of historical accuracy, were the oppressive government to have used atheistic propoganda instead of christian (in that the worst, measured by death count, oppressors in history have all been atheistic, or at the very least anti-christian - mao, stalin, pot and il - i would include hitler in there as well). nevertheless, someone has to be the bad guy and i'm willing to take the stereotype on the nose from time to time. again, as a christian myself, i found this aspect of the movie to be misguided but not a deal breaker.

For the record, I think she looks hotter with the short/no hair (not really the no hair, but the short hair is awesome) than with the hair she's always had in the past.
