Lennon's school book expected to fetch £100,000

JOHN Lennon's schoolbook is expected to fetch £100,000 when it goes under the hammer later this month.

The book contains some of the earliest thoughts, drawings and poems of the music legend in 10 illustrated pages.

Bound in red paper and entitled My Anthology, it dates back to when the Beatle was just 12 years old.

One of the illustrations is of the walrus, from Lewis Carroll's poem The Walrus and the Carpenter.

The verse was later acknowledged by Lennon to have been the inspiration for the band's 1967 song I Am the Walrus.

Louise Cooper of auctioneers Cooper Owen said: "Lennon will always be remembered as one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time.

"But these sketches and poems paint a new picture of the creativity and passion that was rushing through his veins at such a young age."

A letter to Paul McCartney from Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr is also being auctioned alongside the schoolbook.

It is the letter which some Beatles experts believe put the final nail in the coffin of the band.

Lennon, Harrison and Starr wanted the group to be managed by former Rolling Stones manager Allen Klein, but McCartney wanted Linda McCartney's father, Lee Eastman, to take over.

Lennon's engraved silver christening bracelet, the earliest known piece of his memorabilia, is also going under the hammer.

A log of his trip to Bermuda on the Megan Jaye in 1980 is also expected to fetch £25,000 at the April 19 sale at Madame Tussauds in London.

Lennon overcame the writing block he had for many years after the voyage, and the log contains a vivid account of him screaming against the storm while steering the ship.

I wonder who will pay that much for his school book.

There are always collectors out there that will by some interesting things.

I wonder how much The Living Legend could get for his school book.
