Sure, they play lightning fast arpeggios and can 'shred', but it doesn't make sense when you look at it as music.

I'm not looking to start a fight. I'm just saying what I have to say.
I already said this before but i'll say it again MUSIC DOESN'T HAVE TO HAVE MEANING. music should just be music. music comes in all different forms just like art comes in different forms. pichosso's work looks nothing like van gogh's work but it's still art. cannibal corpse sounds nothing like bethoven but it's still music. and i wouldn't call this "talentless"

Music is art and art is subjective. Some people like Dave Matthews. Some dont. Does that make it bad. Its up to us to decide. I enjoy all kinds of music, and I certainly don't "throw down" on other peoples taste in music. That's just close minded.

Close-minded? I listen to everything from 'The Agony Scene' to Mozart. Being able to play an instrument fast doesn't make you a great musician.

Why make judgements on me when you don't know me? I never attacked you. I was only trying to have a discussion and you recoil and instantly dismiss me. Also, we never argued about anything, did we?

you dismissed metal and said "it was destroying art" and just dissed an entire genre of music. And i gurantee you most of those musicians can play in melody and in rhythm. they just choose not to because it's not there thing. just like led zepplin (no disrespect to zep) choose not to play death metal.

Not attacking you at all man. I'm just saying when you make statements like that it makes people defensive. Music is just what we make it. It's close minded to say that any kind of music is talent less. Its just too subjective. no worries man. not trying to start anything.

I did not dismiss metal at all. There are many different forms/genres of metal. I have studied and listened to this genre of metal, as well as many others, for years. To say I 'dismissed' it like I never gave it a chance is not correct. What does it matter if I like it or not? Like I said, "I like what I like". I wasn't trying to offend you. We can keep discussing this if you like. Let's just agree not to cause a fight?

that's okay but when you call it "talent-less" and "destroying the art of music" i'm gonna get defensive.

Its all good. welcome to the boards. I'm all over the place with my music too. Lately I've been into Ozric Tentacles and Porcupine Tree. Two british hippie kind of bands. Sorry for going off topic TPryce.

Yeah. I tend to over-state certain things, I guess. Sorry about that.
