Eminem is close, though, because I love how personal his lyrics are getting. They're getting deep as he gets older and more mature.
Rakim - Best lyricist ever, a legend and probably the best living MC. Influenced so many MCs including Lupe. Rakim still raps circles around just about anyone.
    It's Been A LOng Time

    Dedicated

    Paid In Full

    Juice

    Holy Are You

In no way is he generic...

KRS-One - Another amazing lyricist, raps about real stuff. His lyrical content is unmatched and is one of the realest MCs ever. He still is just as good as he was in the 90's. He is one of the most consistent rappers ever.

    Material Love

    Palm & Fist

    Street Posion

    Freestyle

Dopest MC alive IMO. No one can touch KRS.....

Eminem - Look throughout this thread, he is well represented.

Tech N9ne - Also well represented in this thread. Best Flow in hip hop imo. Also very consistent.

    Sickology 101

Canibus - Lyrically, this guy is top 5 all time. And he still is flat out amazing. No body really knows much of him but he is as raw and as good as anyone. He has hardcore lyricism and awesome punchlines, would love to see more of a back and fourth between him and Eminem because it would be sick. He is the black Eminem.

    Spitboss Cypher (2nd verse)

    Salute

    Lyrical Noir

    2nd Round Knockout

    4,3,2,1 (3rd verse

    Freestyle

Kool G Rap - Great flow, great lyrics, has it all. And he can still do it too.

    On The Run

    Fast Life

    Ill Street Blues

    The Streets

    In Too Deep

Joe Budden - One of the realest MCs alive. Let's his soul bleed on the track and is an amazing lyricist.

    All Of Me

    Dumb Out

    Broken Wings Freestyle

    Walk With Me

Royce Da 59 - One of the best flows in hip hop, backs it up with great punchlines.

    Remember The Titans (last Verse)

    Boom

    Gun Harmonizing

    Tired Of Yall

    Who Got Bodied Freestyle

I'm gonna add Elzhi to that list, as he is probably the best rapper out of Detroit (including Em).

Elzhi - Best Rapper out of Detroit, he is soooo good lyrically and has one of the best flows in hip hop, few are better.

    Dream

    Glow

    Guessing Game

    Motown 25

    It Ain't Hard To Tell

Before anyone responds, I implore you to go through and listen to each song I have posted.

Granted, i've never been an Ortiz or Royce fan. Budden is fire though.
I'm talking as a group - I like G.O.O.D.'s artists better, I like the soulful rap better than I do most else but the group right now is the hottest stuff out. And for all you Tech lovers, you must WANT him to sleep with your girls lol, I said before he "Dated" a girl i was with before me, she had a Tech tat on her and then had it removed as she grew up...I dont hate him personally, just dont like him, him style, etc...he's the kind of rap I despise and hate. His music takes hip-hop and people in general backwards. AGAIN - I could give an EFFFF if you like him - I think he's trash.

If you dont like Tech N9ne its no big deal, I'm not huge fan of his anymore either,
I don't despise him like you but Im not a huge fan at all.

But, his skill set and talent is undeniable.

We have a very different taste when it comes to hip-hop styles. I mean, Kool G Rap, KRS, and Rakim are obviously classics but not really a fan of the Tech N9ne or Royce or any of that stuff really. Just not for me. Also, I've noticed you almost always turn hip-hop discussions into an argument or a competition. I've seen you state that one hip-hop artist would 'MURDER' another on a track. Mostly, this is what is wrong with hip-hop today. I know MCs often have rivalries and arguments but for the most part, who cares if so and so would rap circles around another person. Wouldn't it be cooler if they came together to make kick ass music instead?

Agreed, like I've said multiple times, there are too many things to judge a rapper on, it's not black or white like whose a better QB or who can jump higher. It's all just nonsense arguing on here

But I don't understand how you can say the music he makes now takes hip hop and people in general back. Whether Tech admits it or not he has gone mainstream in the construction of his albums as he's now putting songs that would be a hit mainstream if another artist made them. But when he makes songs like Mama Nem, The Martini, even songs like Low, I Love Music, and even He's a Mental Giant it shows that his music isn't what people like to make it out to be. I don't feel like linking anymore songs but Delusional and So Lonely would also fit in there as well as a lot more that I'm forgetting right now.
