March 22, 2007 - IGN had heard rumors to this effect a few weeks back, but now they've been confirmed: Martial arts master Jet Li is in talks to play the all-wrapped-up bad guy in Universal's The Mummy 3.
The Hollywood Reporter has the news on Li's likely casting in the sequel. Little is known about the plot of the film, which is being directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, Stealth) from a script by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville). It has been confirmed that the locale is changing from the Egypt of the first two pictures to China for the third, hence explaining the Chinese Li's presence as a mummy. His character's story, says THR, starts off in ancient times and then picks up in a post-World War II setting. One sequence will involve the legendary terracotta warriors of China, some 6,000 men and horses originally constructed to protect the tomb of the first Emperor of Qin (Qin Shi Huangdi) (thank Wikipedia for that last tidbit!).
Additionally, it has been previously reported that the film's protagonist will not be Brendan Fraser, but rather his character's son, now 22 years-old.
