  • Jet Li Confirmed for Mummy 3

March 22, 2007 - IGN had heard rumors to this effect a few weeks back, but now they've been confirmed: Martial arts master Jet Li is in talks to play the all-wrapped-up bad guy in Universal's The Mummy 3.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news on Li's likely casting in the sequel. Little is known about the plot of the film, which is being directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, Stealth) from a script by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville). It has been confirmed that the locale is changing from the Egypt of the first two pictures to China for the third, hence explaining the Chinese Li's presence as a mummy. His character's story, says THR, starts off in ancient times and then picks up in a post-World War II setting. One sequence will involve the legendary terracotta warriors of China, some 6,000 men and horses originally constructed to protect the tomb of the first Emperor of Qin (Qin Shi Huangdi) (thank Wikipedia for that last tidbit!).

Additionally, it has been previously reported that the film's protagonist will not be Brendan Fraser, but rather his character's son, now 22 years-old.

I thought the first two were "Entertaining" but far from great films. IMHO Stephen Sommers is one of those directors that can take a good story and make it mediocre on film. Van Helsing is another example.

Jet Li didn't die. He just said that Fearless would be his last martial arts movie. He's very much alive and well.

I don't know about this movie. The last Mummy movie came out so long ago, and I don't think anybody cares about another one.

I agree with you. The humor aspect of the first two made them appealing. I just so happened to watch them a few weeks ago. We have both on DVD and will complete the set I suppose.

          Edit: Gawd I hate Mummies....

I don't know what's worse; that a Mummy 3 is being made, or that Jet Li is starring in it.

??? Bruce Lee died of unconfirmed causes at his home I thought. You ever see "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story"? I think they talk about it there.

Brandon is bruce's son. He was in showdown in little tokyo. And his first big screen film rapid fire, which was a very underrated action film imo. 2 years later or so, brandon's last big screen film was the crow, in which he was accidently killed while shooting on the set.

The fact that a horrible movie like 'the mummy' is having a 3rd. I was shocked they actually made a #2, but a third is just overly embarrassing.

and JET LI over Arnold Vosloo... bad move. Plus the fact the Jet Li wouldn't be doing martial artsin it, since Fearless was supposedly his last martial arts epic.
Add to that no Brendon Frasier and you might as well dub in Speed 3.

Wow, this isn't exactly good news.

Plus that guy that worked on Van Helsing and such is working on it.

This movie is bad news for everybody...

Good point. By the way, how do you mess up a movie featuring every monster ever created? Van Helsing, thats how. The script practically wrote itself. On a similair note, how did they screw up Alien vs. Predator? Shoot, spit acid, decapitate, repeat.....I should write these movies.
