What are the best books you've read and why?

  • #2
    Harry Potter 2
    Harry Potter 3
    Harry Potter 4
    Harry Potter 5
    Harry Potter 6
Harry Potter 7 (this one especially)

Never read the first one. I simply liked the story and such.

I also used to read the Redwall series books. Kinda grew out of them, but they were fun. Except the darn songs. Those just took up space.

Tried reading the Master and Commander series. Couldn't get into it, I think it was the style of it.

I do like the graphic novel series Fables thanks to WhoDey. Awesome story, awesome artwork, plenty of action and twists, and suspense waiting for the next issue.

The Browns are gone; I'm not a fan of the Impostors

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

        Historical books right?

Ever read the Master and Commander series? Its pretty historical from what I read on the back of the cover......I would vouch for it, but I can't force myself past the second chapter as I know nothing about sailing.

I enjoy Polybius and Livy's chronicals of the Second Punic War.

I enjoy Tom Clancy's novels, except his most recent (red rabbit and naythign after that have been crappy IMO)

Historical Fiction books by Micheal Curtis Ford (The Ten Thousand, God And Legions to name a few)

I still love Roald Dahl books (THE BFG, James and The Giant Peach, etc.)

Robert A Caro is an excellent Modern Hsitory writer, and his books about Lyndon B. Johnson are excellent, though a little drag on at times.

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy series is excellent.

          To name a few

            Yep, historical books of course.

I'm not particularly interested in historic fiction.

Among my favorite books though are:

            Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Plutarch's Lives Volumes I and II
            Tacitus' Annals of Imperial Rome
The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon

Lensman series by E.E. "Doc" Smith inspired George Lucas to create the Jedi Knights in Star Wars and is some of the best 30's space opera you can read! You just can't beat using hyperspace to crash two planets into a third planet to destroy your enemy.

              List of books in series
              Triplanetary
              Galactic Patrol
              First Lensman
              Gray Lensman
              Second Stage Lensman
              Children of the Lens

I'm pretty sure that's the order but I could be off a little.

I love to read....so I will probably leave a bunch out.

I really enjoy literature in general...like all the books you have to read for school. I love John Steinbeck, he is probably my favorite author. The Grapes of Wrath is so great and I love East of Eden. I also love Theodore Dreiser who wrote An American Tragedy.

I am also a big fan of Albert Camus who wrote The Stranger, The Plague and some other stuff. The Plague is really an amazing piece of writing if you havent read any of his stuff you really should. I'm pretty interested in James Joyce and his crazy style of writing.

Of course I read Harry Potter, Series of Unfortunate Events (love those books), Redwall...hehe Cinny I always skipped reading the songs, and I read tons of girly books. haha

OK. I am the nerdiest human ever.
                    ...capture it...remember it...

Hairy Plopper books are the only books I read for fun to be honest.

                          1. Dracula -- no comment needed.

Pick a book by Ramsey Campbell, far and away my favorite author.
Off the top of my head, favorite Campbell Novels:
                          The Count of Eleven
                          Obsession
                          Ancient Images
                          The Hungry Moon
                          Midnight Sun
                          Pact of the Fathers
                          The Overnight

I love his short stories as well. Cold Print got me hooked on Campbell.

Otherwise, whatever horror author I'm in the mood for. John Farris is excellent, especially Son of the Endless Night.
                          Ken Eulo is another favorite.

Other than that, too many to name.
