  • What Makes Fred the Bunny Happy?

    Four words for ya.....

    CLEAN SHAVEN ZAKK WYLDE

And my 2nd favorite song EVER...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz_R9XOQi_8

Again with the Zakk...except a really weird video to a another song I hold near and dear....

    Blessed Hellride

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1gkSjU2EPc

In honor of Dimebag...one that we cover....
    http://video.aol.com/video-detail/id/1992403094

And my all time favorite song?

Not a BLS song, but damned good enough.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjHPNPcgn64

I posted this cuz I keep seeing sigs once in awhile with Dimebag on it...and figure the BLS & Dimebag fans out there would like the post.

    Plus Zakk makes me happy...

    Musical genius? Yes...
    Video genius...ummm...no
My strong suggestion would be to NOT watch the videos...just turn it up.

awsome guitarist, but i wouldn't exactly say musical genius

sure he can shred, but has he really done anything to help take metal a step forward?

You can pretty much take any of his solos and put it in a different song and it would sound pretty much the same. Although his solos on the ballad type songs like in this river, are pretty amazing.

Songs like "Fire it up" and "Still born" seem a bit pumped out to me...

Cool songs, but the work he's done for Ozzy and the stuff that just isn't pumped out is what I'm talking about.

I think his style is one that puts him in a league of his own, very much like that of Randy Rhodes, Jake E. Lee, Kirk Hammett, Eddie Van Halen, etc...

Anyone who has developed their own distinct sound moves it forward.

And really, what do you define as metal these days?

I'd hardly call bands like Trivium or Atreyu good metal...guess I'm just stuck in old ways.

Zakk has advanced metal just by being on the scene and raising the par.
      His sweep picking is scary.

He developed his own effect pedals. It just depends on what you mean by moving forward.

There is a lot of emotion to his sound. Given, I'm not a huge fan of his voice.

Needless to say, the guy has never sounded "Stock".

Zach Wilde is a damn good metal guitarist, but he's one dimensional.

Trivium pre "The Crusades" were AWESOME. But, like Atreyu, they sold out BIG time.

However, Atreyu's lead guitarist is one of the best up-and-coming guitarists in the industry.

FWIW, to me good metal is bands like Katatonia, All That Remains, Parkway Drive, and the likes.

Well to me there just isn't anything really new to his sound, other then effects.

All the guitarists you mentioned did something that nobody else was really doing at the time, Randy Rhodes had stuff like Dee which was pretty much classical, Kirk Hammet did stuff for thrash, Eddie did stuff for rock. But with Zakk it's just like you've heard it all before IMO.

and if you ever hear anybody call atreyu metal, then slap them in the face.

              yes sir....gladly!!!

              Ha ha haha!

Do you at least think he's innovative in any way at all?

Or do you think he's just REALLY that good at playing scales, lol?

Well he's the best at pinch harmonics i've ever heard. And he can get pretty technical, and I do enjoy almost all of his work, it's just nothing that different or nothing really new.
