          • The Rays magic # is now one. How embarrassing that we are probably going to lose out on the division to the freaking Rays.

                        • I'm glad Dice-K is pitching at Anaheim. That way we can have Beckett pitch in Fenway and I won't be totally frustrated.

Looks like I'm not sleeping much starting Wed. 10 pm start time kill my productivity at work.

That would make it 8pm here. I guess that is one goodthing about the Mountian time zone.

                              • This Day in Red Sox History.

                                October 1
1903: The first World Series Game is played in the Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds. Deacon Phillippe of the Pirates beats the Cy Young 7-3. Jimmy Sebring hits the first home run of the Fall Classic.
1933: A 38 year old Babe Ruth takes the mound for the last time in his Hall of Fame Career today as he battles he old team the Boston Red Sox in the Bronx. The “Sultan of Swat” gives up 12 hits and 5 earned runs, but New York outlast Boston 6-5. His start today is a ploy to drive attendance in today’s meaningless game. Ruth final record as a pitcher is 94-46.
1961: Roger Maris hits his 61st home run of the season off rookie pitcher Tracy Stallard of the Boston Red Sox to pass Babe Ruth’s 34 year old record for home runs in a single season. The Yankees win the game 1-0.
1967: The Fenway Faithful watches as Carl Yastrzemski collects four hits to lead Boston to a 5-3 and clinch the American League pennant. Yaz’s streak of ten hits in his last 13 at bats gives him the AL triple crown (.326, 44 home runs, 121 hits)
1978: The Indians beat the Yankees 9-2 on the last day of the season to force a one game playoff at Fenway for the American League East crown. Mean while in Boston the Sox shut the Jays 5-0, it is the eighth in the row over Toronto.
1980: Under pressure from the media and the fans, the Red Sox fire Manager Don Zimmer.
