That's right. I'm talking about the Red Sox' prized prospect Clay Buchholz. Clay worked six innings on seven hits, two runs, no walks and seven strikeouts. His fastball topped out at 95 mph and he displayed his dazzling "Josh Beckettesque" curveball.

Scouts that attended the game were far more impressed with Buchholz than his opponent Roger Clemens. As one American League scout said following the game, “I would have more confidence in this kid (Buchholz) starting a major league game tomorrow than the other guy (Clemens)...”
Taking a shot at Clemens after the equivalent of a spring training start ??

red sox fans NEVER cease to amaze me.

Funny there was no mention of Buchholz pitching better than ....... Curt.

    No wonder Clemens left boston.

how is that taking a shot at clemens? he simply stated that buchholtz pitched a better game than clemens and a scout said he would rather have buchholtz tomorrow. everything he said was true.

As Suzyn Waldman would say, "Oh My Goodness Gracious!"

BTW Bailey, have you compared Abreu's stats to Sheff's lately? I bet Yanks fans wish they never let him go.

            Bobby Abreu - .228 avg. 2 HR, 6 doubles, 32 runs, 24 BB, 41 SO's, 6 SB

            Gary Sheffield - .262 avg. 12 HR, 7 doubles, 44 runs, 31 walks, 27 SO's, 7 SB

              Well Abreu has more BBs

And no, I don't regret getting rid of Sheffield at all.

Sheffield's average may only climb another 10 points, Abreu a career .300 hitter, should be, and eventually will be, doing much better than this.

It'll get better, though I doubt the Yankees will catch the Sox if they continue to play injury free baseball...

                • I will admit I was always a big fan of Sheff. I was sad letting him go but I was sad trading Soriano.

Abreu can only stay in a slump for so long.(I hope)

I don't regret trading Sheffield. Sheffield demanded a contract extension. The Tigers were willing to do so, but that wouldn't have made sense for the Yankees.

Look beyond the numbers and ask any Dodgers, Braves, Padres, etc. fan how desirable it is to have an unhappy Sheffield on the team.

No one foresaw Abreu's tremendous slump this season, but his 2006 contributions should not be forgotten. Sheffield isn't a 1B, nor is Giambi. Neither needs platooned.
