I like the quote in my sig better.

      Funny thing about these quotes.

From 1901-2001, 100 years, the Red Sox won 5 WS titles.
From 1973-2001, 28 years, George Steinbrenner won 6 WS titles.

Then you got your two and what happened? The Yankees won another one, the most recent, as in they're now still, as of today, the Defending World Series Champions.

They showed a graphic on World Series titles won during Steinbrenner's reign:

      Yankees - 7
      Athletics - 3
      Reds - 3

We'll group you in with the Blue Jays or Twins or expansion teams like the Marlins or expansion teams like the Rays who use the Red Sox as stepping stones to make it to a World Series... after 2004 and 2007 by the way.

The winning tradition continues in the Bronx, hence the Defending World Series Champions are in first place. Where are you? Besides 2004 or 2007?

That's the difference between our franchises. It took you 86 years to get over Babe Ruth. It took you 26 years to get over Bucky Dent. It took us only 5 to get over the 2004 series.

Ya funny. Amuse us some more with those two golden years of your's.

              • Cashman said the Yankees will be watching closely as versatile righty Sergio Mitre pitches tonight for the SWB Yankees. Mitre has been on the DL with an oblique injury but put up a 2.88 ERA in 25 innings before getting hurt and could be in line for a more prominent spot with the Yankees once he’s healthy.

                http://yankees.lhblogs.com/

I suspect this will be Mitre's final rehab game and that he'll re-join the Yankees by Tuesday. Not sure if Gaudin or Moseley will be the first to go. I've seen more than enough of Gaudin. Hard to tell about Moseley, who has pitched in only 2 games since being called up from Scranton.

The trade market will be interesting to watch, as will Romulo Sanchez' performance in Scranton. Glad they converted him to the pen.

I'm guessing 3B/1B/DH Chad Tracy will be called up by next week.

                      • DH/1B Juan Miranda was promoted. IF/OF Kevin Russo was sent to Scranton.

Miranda has been on fire in AAA, but is running out of time to prove he can hit major league pitching. He gets the start at DH tonight and, barring a trade, should play quite a bit in a DH platoon with Marcus Thames.
