I also know that Simeon DIDN'T win it, though fellow Illini Dana Howard and Kevin Hardy DID. Maybe they'll teach about **** Butkus at your next Simeon Rice U of I study group.
Thanks for trying to insult my football knowledge.

It's Dana Howard...trust me, also from Illinois....not that you couldn't look it up to verify it no matter where you're from. Bottom line is- he is and has always been a pass rusher....he has not, nor will ever be a guy who covers NFL starting receivers 10+ yards down the field....blow up a screen to a RB, sure...take a TE into the flat- alright....zone blitz or not- you have to know your personnel. I WILL agree that he's not seeing the field enough to be as productive as we'd like, but at this stage in his career- the only thing he's here to do is apply pressure.

Jarvis Moss is a rookie. who needs to be on the field more. at the very least if moss is not ready to go switch doom back to the right side and play tim crowder who had a steady game against pitts.
All in all the more i watch this team the more i think its the coaches. we had a good defensive game plan agaisnt Pitts and came out and belly flooped. The fool who fancies he is full of wisdom

Rice was dropping back in coverage a lot too tonight so I'm not blaming him. Lets put some of the blame on the other starting DE. I know Dumervil does his thing but when is the last time you've seen Engerberger with pressure, stop or disrupt a play in the back field. He was a nobody in SF and hasn't shown anything all season or since he's been here for that matter. I say bench him and start Rice and Dumervil for constant pressure on 1st and 2nd downs whether it's a run or pass. I liked the way Rice played tonight and the dropped him in coverage alot too if you guys wre paying attention. No DE in the league will get pressure every game and like the guy said, Farve who knows him from TB days rolled the other way on purpose and occasion, I think. Don't get me wrong, I like Moss but he is overrated in Denver and was overrated at Florida. They got a lot of coveage sacks and Harvey made Moss look better than what he was. WE should have drafted the other Florida guy (Reggie Nelson) with the pick we had in the first round who was in a similiar situation with the game on the line with the Jaguars and made the play. Having too slow safties is not good in the league especially if you have to stack the box.Dre is a great corner but it was just a greater throw. It looked like bad coverage because we had to stack the box and neither of our safties are fast enough to cover both deep halves. I don't know what or whre Cox was on that play but he is responsble too. As for Gold, he is good but is getting shown up because the middle, strong, and front four aren't doing theie jobs. The weak LB is usually the smallest and sholdn't have to take on blockers if the others are doing their jobs. For Sam Adams, I say sign Grady Jackson and he'll look and play better. Or just relaease him and sign Grady Jackson who had 5 1/2 stops in the back field before being cut this season.Originally posted by Humberg View PostOkay, some of this is valid:
a) For instance, Rice and Adams are not here beyond this off-season. If we're going to be this bad, then at least get them outta there and get our young guys some experience.
b) People trash Gold all the time, but its not like we have a better option. Truth is, none of our LBs are playing great right now
c) To say "lets get rid of Bly" is stupid. He's a good corner. Maybe even a great corner. You know, Parcels was saying in the pre-game that when you can't stop the run, everything suffers - this includes pass defense, offense - everything. Basically because you can't control anything, you can't do situational defense, you can't adjust your coverages, you leave your corners on an island. It all starts with the run d which starts with our front 7. Champ and Dre look a lot worse than they are because basically our front 7 isn't giving them any help. And maybe part of this is the scheme that, so far, isn't working. So don't go saying Bly sucks or anything, cuz' its not true.
In truth, we have Moss, Thomas, Crowder and Dumervil, we have DJ (as an OLB), we have Dre and Champ. We need to add another legit DT, a MLB and a ball-hawk safety and I think we'd see this defense shape up a lot. I advocate doing this the right way through the draft instead of high-priced (overpriced) free agents, but thats just me.
