  • NFL Season Predictions

I know its waaaay too early, but now that the draft is over and FA is pretty much done with, I thought it might be fun to hear everyone's season predictions before the summer starts! Here are mine for the moment.

    AFC
    1.Patriots (East Winner): 14-2
    2.Chargers (West Winner): 12-4
    3.Colts (South Winner): 11-5
    4.Browns (North Winner): 10-6
    5.Broncos (West WC): 10-6
    6.Jaguars (South WC): 10-6
    ---Just missed---
    7.Texans (South): 9-7 <First winning season>
8.Steelers (North): 8-8 <Loss of LB depth, Faneca, plus very tough sched>

Those would be some awesome wild card matchups...always fun to see Broncos/Browns game in the playoffs, and good division rivalry game with Colts/Jags (Division winner might switch pending the happenings of Marvin Harrison being investigatedl...)

    NFC
    1. Saints (South Winner): 13-3
    2. Cowboys (East Winner): 12-4
    3. Rams (West Winner): 11-5
    4. Vikings (North Winner): 10-6
    5. Eagles (East WC): 10-6
    6. Packers (North WC): 9-7
    ---Just Missed---
    7. Giants (East): 9-7 <Post-SB slump, like the Steelers of '06>
    8. Seahawks (West): 8-8 <Can't win the division by default anymore>
    ***Side note
Washington could surprise this year depending on how they develop. They're a bit on the raw side, but have a very nice schedule. If they go 3-3 in their division I could see them winning a total of 9 or 10 games easy. Not sure what to do with them right now though...

Vikings/Eagles would be a great game if you like defense...T.Jackson vs. Asante Samuel might not seem fair, but idk how much room Westbrook will have to run against the Vikings front 4. It was a toss-up between a young Packers team and a Giants team coming off a SB win, but decided to go with the Pack. Interesting to see if Aaron Rodgers can really fill those big shoes against a healthy and improved Rams team.

I'd love to hear other predictions and some thoughts on mine!

Good picks, I could see all of those happening. I wasn't too confident where to place Carolina yet, wanted to wait until after training camp to decide what to do with them. I could see the Seahawks winning the division again, but I think they lost a bit of ground this offseason, and replacing Josh Brown with Orlando Mare just sounds scary, and the Rams did a lot to fix up their O-line, which caused a lot of their problems last year, and added some WR depth, so I think they'll have a productive offense again.

both of those are pretty optimistic for denver, its very possible but i see us 8-8 or 9-7 then in 2009 jumping back to double digit wins and doing something.

Very true...I'm being a bit optimistic about it with the record, won't lie For the 2 wildcards, I was in a tossup between Tennessee, Houston, Buffalo, and Denver, I don't think Buffalo's quite there yet, and Tennessee I feel lost a lot of quality depth, especially on the D-line...Houston and Denver are similar, and both I feel are slowly turning the corner. Maybe one of them gets in with 9 wins rather than 10 next year, and just decided that I'd go very optimistic and choose Denver with 10.

Hope you guys don't mind me analyzing your picks, just let me know if it gets old

Cutler'stheMan-I like the big Jags pick, I could very easily see them having a huge year. I think the AFC South will be completely up in the air IMO, but most likely be between the Colts and Jags again for the top 2. I know its easy to pick the Steelers to go back to the playoffs, but I've got a couple of problems with them. They lost a bit of depth at LB, which might end up affecting their defense against the run, and losing Faneca I think will affect them more than they realize. Despite those, they'd still be alright if it wasn't for their schedule...

If they can make it out of that 7-week stretch alive, I'll have them as SB contenders.

O-ManePunisher-Like the Jags pick too, but as much as I hate it, idk if I can see the Pats not having the best record in the AFC this year. Happy to see a Bronco pick for the West its hard to see the Chargers not having a strong season, but then again they did struggle for awhile last year so who knows. The Panthers seem to be a common pick this year...I could definitely see it go either way, they'll be interesting to follow next year.

If they make it through that 7 games, there won't be anyone left. They may have the toughest schedule of all time (by preseason standards anyway).

The Colts have the 2nd hardest schedule, just barely behind the Steelers, the Colts got lucky, because they don't have to play themselves...

I seriously see us going 12-4 this season, only losing to the Chargers (once), Jaguars, Patriots (though we've had their number lately) and possibly the Saints, though we may not lose to the Patriots and I don't see the Saints really doing it, it's just possible. However, maybe the Browns beat us, maybe we lose to the Raiders again once... Either way, that's still 12-4 to me. I realize this isn't realistic for most fans, but as I hope I've proven on these boards, I try to be as logical as possible. Whether it be through scouring through stats, analysis, interviews, etc...

I'm not just a fan boy or a homer, I'm the President.

With that said, Raiders, Chargers and Chiefs also have very easy strength of schedules.

And just from that can we assume that there may be three teams from the AFC West in the playoffs? With the Bills fighting for a Wild Card, but losing based on the fact that they lost to both Oakland and Denver, the Titans or the Texans taking the South and the Browns taking the North? Yeah... Why not? But the Bills aren't losing to Oakland, and the Colts beat the Titans twice, Texans beat the Colts twice, Jags once- so! Oh and I still like the Jaguars though and they still scare me, but they're drawing some Offensive teams that can pound their impenetrable Defense. It's only a matter of time before the elastic breaks.

                    So here we go:

                    AFC East- Patriots (14-2)
                    AFC North- Browns (9-7)
                    AFC South- Texans (12-4)
                    AFC West- Broncos (12-4)
                    Chargers (11-5)
                    Colts (11-5)

                    NFC East- Cowboys (12-4)
                    NFC North- Packers (10-6)
                    NFC South- Saints (12-4)
                    NFC West- Cardinals (9-7)
                    Eagles (9-7)
                    Buccaneers (11-5)

Of course, I don't know that it'll play out like this, as the exact records are pretty fluid and the matchups can change. I am confident in all the of these teams making the playoff except the Saints, their division is very questionable. The Giants, Broncos and Eagles are also teams that could, could be replaced by the Jets, Steelers, Bills, Bengals, Texans or Titans in the AFC, and the Packers or Redskins in the NFC.

i don't think the chargers will be that good. lets see how LT does without neal blocking and without turner spelling. still a great RB, but i don't see the numbers he had, maybe around 1,300 yards, 16 TDs.

and then theres norv turner whos gonna screw everything up almost as much as rivers will screw everything up.

Well since it's all speculation anyway, and I can say whatever I want in my list heres what I'm predicting.

                              AFC

                              East:
Bills (Pats will get hosed again for cheating when Goodell sees the 8 new tapes and in their shame and disgust they will all commit seppuku (ritual suicide for all those not up on their samurai lingo.)Yeah that's right I call the Bills to win the East which will cause the heavens to crash down and the seas to boil red with blood.

                              West:
Broncos I don't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks I'm supporting my team.

                              South:
Jags (Tough team only got tougher. Colts are not the team they used to be. It will be a close battle)

                              North:
Browns (Why not? That's like picking the smartest kid on the short bus.)

                              NFC:

                              East:
Skins (Why not cowboys? That's easy... Pac man/T.O. on the same team? I smell a self destruct coming on.)

                              West:
Rams this is my underdog "worst to first" team this year.

                              South:
Saints (Any team that has the luck to lateral the ball a dozen times on the final play of a game that will put them in the playoffs, score a touchdown and then miss the extra point gets not only my dumb ass award, but also my sympathy.)

                              North:
Vikings Hell I just think they have a legit shot in that division.

Wild cards? We don't need no stinking wild cards!

Some of you may be thinking that my choices are ridiculous, but considering how ridiculous it is to try and predict something like this I think I did OK.
Is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me?
