  • Does Tom Nalen deserve to have a bronze bust?

He is one of our steadiest linemen since Gary Zimmerman and he's going into the Hall of Fame this weekend...

Deserves? Yes. Does he get one? Probably not. The Broncos' cut blocking reputation and its perception among the voters will probably keep him out. Zimmerman didn't have the same stigma because he played most of his career in other systems in Minnesota and then in Jim Fassel's offense in Denver for two years.

No 49ers offensive linemen in the Hall, at least none who've played in the last 40 years. Cut blocking reputation hurts them too. Had some outstanding linemen in their glory days of Walsh and Seifert. Randy Cross. Keith Fahnhorst. Harris Barton. None will get into the Hall without a ticket.

Nalen's position hurts him too. Few centers in the Hall from the last quarter-century. Dwight Stephenson. Mike Webster. That's it. They were the 80s all-decade centers.

The 90s all-decade centers haven't come close. Dermontti Dawson. Mark Stepnoski. Neither one has been a finalist yet. Both are eligible. Nalen is a great Bronco. Destined for Ring of Fame. But his wait for Canton could be eternal.

I agree..Great career with the Broncos but not HoF worthy I don't think.

There is no way in hell that he deserves a spot in the HOF...... How can a guy be a HOFer that has never been ALL-PRO, or even been voted a starter in the Pro-bowl......He is a very good player, but not even in the ball park as an all time great. Put him in the ring of honor, but that is as far as he goes.

It took Zimm 4 or 5 tries to make it...and you are talking about a guy that was on the all 80's and the all 90's team (him and Jerry Rice are the only players to be on 2 all decade teams). Yet he is going to be a first or second ballot guy, and never been a starter in the pro-bowl

Zimm played 11 seasons to Nalen's 15+. Nalen has been to 5 pro bowls. They aren't going to hold not starting in a probowl against the guy.

Furthermore, a lot of HOF voters go off of opponents view of a guy-the guy they didn't want to play. Continuing, there has never been a center that has had as many linemates as Nalen yet continued to anchor a line in the top 10 for rushing as Nalen. Here is some more for Tommy:
**Started for a Broncos team that has allowed the third-fewest sacks (395) in the NFL since 1995

**Enters 2008 ranked second in Broncos history in career starts (188) and third in games played (194), totals that both are the most in franchise annals among offensive linemen.

                  **starter for two sb teams

**Helped Terrell Davis in 1998 become just the fourth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season (2,008 yds.) and blocked for two Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year winners (Clinton Portis in 2002 and Mike Anderson in 2000).

** how many different backs have run for 1,000 yards behind a line anchored by nalen?

**http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_10045532 Jim Armstrong a HOF voter!

** look at Bronco rushing totals and sacks when Nalen played vs injured. It will show yo everything you need to know

Nalen will be a first or second ballot guy.

We're all forgetting something here, too.

Nalen is known for not talking to the media. And the media votes on the Hall of Fame.

Zim did interviews before he became a Bronco. The silence started in the last couple of years of his career.

Nalen, though, has been refusing almost all interviews for years.

This, too, will almost certainly kill his chances. As mentioned in a post on this page, his resume is strong. But not strong enough to overcome what the media who votes may feel about his non-cooperation with their requests, as well as the cut-blocking issue.

Ring of Famer, yes. Hall of Famer, no.

Err, did you ever read the three other correcting posts last time you said Nalen was never an All-Pro? 2003. First Team. The season after tearing his ACL. He was also All-Pro second team in 99 and 00. So please, research a little bit before you make claims such as that one.

Nalen should have a case for the HoF but realistically, he hasn't a chance. I mean, he's only anchored a line which has consistantly been top 10 in the league against the run. Also, considering his size...he's played his whole career in the 280s. The guy should've been thrown around like a rag doll but I can't say I've ever seen him comprehensively manhandled.

regardless of whether he has the credentials...

I don't like talking about broncos in the hall, it never seems to end up in our favor.

Is this even a question that deserves an answer? We all know the answer to this one unlike the answer is T.D. going to the HOF since in his short time he owned the record books and if it were not for a freak accident he would own the record books!
