  • Broncos Sign WR Travis Wilson (Practice Squad)

    According to Rotoworld.

Broncos signed WR Travis Wilson to their practice squad.

From apparent third receiver in Cleveland to practice fodder in Denver, Wilson is making the rounds. He could be called up later if injuries strike.

Anyone know anything about the guy? Probably nothing too significant.

From what I hear, he can make the acrobatic catch but needs to be more consistent. I watched him drop a pass that went right through his hands as he was running down the sidelines, but if he can be more consistent catching balls he'll be a good receiver.

He was a former Browns round 3 pick... Good size for a WR but not fast at all.

BIO: All-Conference selection the past two seasons. Slowed by a foot injury as a senior and totaled just 25/310/1. Posted career-best numbers of 50/660/11 as a junior.

POSITIVES: Athletic receiver with natural pass-catching skills. Displays eye/hand coordination, and gets vertical to pluck the ball from the air. Takes a pounding, holds onto the ball and is effective running after the reception. Effectively body-catches when necessary, using his frame to shield away opponents. Remains alert, comes back to the quarterback and consistently works to make himself an available target.

NEGATIVES: Marginal route-runner who does not consistently play with balance. Lacks top-end speed and is not a deep threat.

ANALYSIS: After a disappointing campaign last year, Wilson returned and performed well at the Senior Bowl. May slip through the cracks but could be one of the draft's better bargains late in Day One.

2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
              Grade: 54 | Key
              Alert: None

Comment: Wilson has physical tools and still has upside as a prospect, but he has not acclimated to the NFL very well and remains far too inconsistent. He spent the 2007 season in the dog house and inactive. There were high hopes for Wilson as a developmental project, but with the signing of Donte Stallworth, it is unlikely that he gets the chance to be a difference maker in 2008. He has good size and is a well above-average athlete. He has more than enough speed and catches the ball cleanly, for the most part. He has to improve his route running, toughness and overall reliability, because he too often disappears for stretches. He is probably best out of the slot and there is certainly talent here, but Wilson must work harder in just about all facets of his game to be a factor on this club.

Sounds like a project, but definitely could be a nice addition in the future. Good PS option, I also really like the McBean signing. Hopefully these players can develop

He's an enigma at best right now, but I do think he has a lot of talent and if it "clicks" we will have a steal in Travis Wilson.

My co-worker is a browns fan and says this guy has quite the case of the dropsies. Sounds like Darius Watts version 2.0....

This is his last year of eligability, right? If so, he's is just emergency depth for later in the season. My question is how much better is this guy then Sam or McDaniel?
