  • Who is our Backup Kicker?

Watching the Jets game got me thinking, who's our backup kicker?

The Jets' Mike Nugent was injured attempting his first FG and so the Jets wound up going for it on 4-13 at the Dolphins 25, and scoring a TD.

But then they didn't have anyone for the XP either, and were forced to go for 2, and didn't get it.

If anything happened to Prater, would we have someone who could kick FGs?

probably cutler He showed his skills at safety on defense so he's probably has the kicker skills on special teams

I bet Kern could do it. At the very least kick the extra points for us.

I'm surprised the Jets didn't let whoever their punter is even try an extra point.

Mike Leach is our emergency backup PK/P, like Rod was our emergency backup for QB.

But I think Kern is the 1st option now.

I single-handedly turned the Special Teams Breakdown article on MHR into a Mike Leach Love thread. I wouldn't be surprised if he were the backup P/K.

Kern has never taken a real situation FG AFAIK. I also heard Cutler hit a 40 yarder in practice the other day. Win.

He was a punter in college. He led the Atlantic 10 Conference in punting as a junior and senior.

                        Look at the depth chart.

                        Kern is the backup kicker.

                          I don't think that's always true.

Punters and Kickers are usually listed as the backups for both, but I don't think they're always used as backups.

Like RYO said, that's not always the case.
