  • This is why CHAMP doesn't cover #1

After five seasons of watching Champ Bailey play Im surprised the fans don't understand the role of Champ.

He is a SHUTDOWN corner, because of him, the term was popularized.

Why would you use Champ to lockdown exactly ONE player when he has the ability to cover half a field AND shut down the run on his side?!

Champ is excellent man on man but so much better when can cover half the field. How many times have you seen people run on champ?

The right thing to do is have him shut down half the field and leave it up to the other 10 guys to make a play, and if they don't they should be pressuring the QB to make a mistake on champ's side.

Our DLine is making our 3rd corner and safeties look terrible. But you don't just put Champ on #1 receiver all the time. Wake up broncos fans

Your posts are illogical. Last I checked half the TDs against us were on the right side (hint hint chambers/gonzo). Champ is still really good, but he has maybe lost a step, which would mean playing man would be better for him than shutting down half the field.
Secondly i'm sorry, you don't put your #3 cb on their best receiver for 80% of the game. Even if it is zone then fix the zone.

The thing is... Champ cant "lock" down half the field anymore... Hell he is getting
beat by mediocre WRs (Chambers and Curry[although Curry cant catch]) in
man 2 man coverage. But who doesnt?

What're you guys talking about? The plays that were scored on the right side (Gonzo) were Man coverages. Bailey was on the other side on the receivers. Gonzo beat Boss and a supporting safety, even that is a result of a squishy Dline we have.

When you're facing a run-heavy team why would you call Man coverage schemes? Your statement is so much more illogical.

The fact that JMFW #26 got beat isn't a result of his incompetency alone. KC's QB has so much time and JMFW is undersized. He was right there on Bowe but with that kind of time he couldn't do much else. Also understand that the ball was thrown that way because everything else was locked down.

For about 4 years now, our #3 CB always gets beat because of our Dline, even when champ was on the #1 receiver (Indianapolis) But now you're using champ to shut down the run and let the #3CB make the play, instead of giving up both the pass and the run.

          I agree with you Cam.

If you fans are claiming that Champ has lost a step, it makes even more sense for him not to take the #1 receiver 1v1. Champ is so dominate vs the run and dangerous in the zone when the QB has no time. Watch the 2005 season when we pressured Qbs, champ owned in zone.

Putting champ on the one receiver all the time is just stupid. Play a player for his strengths is what i agree with.

BTW Champ always gets beat on the deep ball when he bites on the run. He's always been like this, he hasn't lost a step. Broncos fans are just upset because he's not getting 10 pics like we used to. We don't have the defense like we used to either.

          Ignorant fans.

Of course.. he's just as fast as when he was 24, your stupid if you think this. Also yes lets play zone all day because that's obviously working now! I'm sure one day it will just 'click' and we will be top 5 defense. Also KC was not run heavy this year until they met us. LJ is not the same and their oline sucks pretty bad. You never play man most of the game, but we play it like 10% of a game. Also you say he hasn't lost a step but re-watch the oakland game and tell me otherwise. He bites on the run and that's why? because obviously he never did that 2-3 years ago? That's stupid.

You would be completely moronic if you think Champ is overrated. He is pretty much the only playmaker on defense next to DJ williams.

What corner would you take in the NFL to replace champ?

Watching champ stomp on LJ and get a turnover is just as dangerous as picking a ball off.

You guys are ridiculous if you think elite CBs don't get beat.

Cro, Aso, Samuels, Woodson, Mathis, and Finnigen (sp?) from Tenn are all close
seconds... and based on this year specifically I'd say three of those guys are
ahead of Champ... But he gets the benefit of the doubt and is still the best.

                      Are you demented?

CBs don't make their money on a QB with tons of time and perfectly thrown balls. Why do you think Cromartie/Aso/Hall got spanked by Royal/Marshall? And they were the best CBs that were being compared to champ.

Hall/Aso/Cromartie were beat on 34 receptions by our WRs. Champ was exposed on one deep ball, yet has forced two turnovers. They STILL dont throw on champ's side.

You need to go be a charger fan if you think that Champ is overrated and if cromartie could even hold a candle next to champ.

                        LOL

I didn't even mention Cro, in fact I mentioned QJ who plays opposite to Cro.....Cro is a HUGE play maker ball hawk, but lacks some skills to be a solid corner (mainly tackling)

Qj on the other hand is not a ballhawk big play maker, but has consistently shut down top WR's year in and year out and could arguable be the best tackling DB in the game

Are you joking? Finnegan? based off four games with a stout Dline with sacks? Look at haynesworth with 6 sacks to his credit and NOTICE how many times the ball was thrown RIGHT at finnegan.

Samuels was beat by devin hester and kyle orton last night 3 times and for a TD. Wth are you talking about? Cro got spanked by marshall for 18 catches and 2 TDs. Watch Mathis/Woodsen and tell me that the balls were thrown right at them.

Our defense has done nothing to scare the QB into throwing a bad pass at Champ. Then our D gives Qbs all day to focus a perfect throw on champ and you're all screaming.

What kind of broncos fans do we have here?

how is Cro a ball hawk when the ball falls into his lap 80% of the time? Do you even watch how QJ plays? he's a physics CB that is good at Jamming the receiver at the line and then funnelling them off to the safety. Watch Jammer and McRee play in the past two years.

NOONE is a better tackler than champ. DId you watch when Champ stonewalled running backs last year?! You really are a chargers fan in disguise.
