  • Shanahan Upset with Thomas

    Shanahan upset with Thomas.

Denver defensive players should think twice before they attempt to return an interception or a fumble after listening to coach Mike Shanahan's reaction to the fumble by tackle Marcus Thomas.

"It was inexcusable," Shanahan said. "You cannot turn the football over, especially as a defensive lineman. Hit the ground."

Thomas had dropped into zone pass coverage and intercepted a pass by Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia in the fourth quarter Sunday. He rumbled for 11 yards, holding the ball in only his right arm, before a Tampa player knocked it loose. Tampa recovered and got a new set of downs.

"Sometimes those defensive linemen try to pick up the ball instead of falling on it, and that's a mistake. You can't do it," Shanahan said. "You're not going anywhere with it. You're slow. You're not a running back, and you're not a running back for a reason."

Shanahan was hilarious talking about that play on one of his denverbroncos.com press conferences. But he was kinda being serious though.

Unless you're Shaun Rogers and Selvin Young is trying to bring you down.

Lessoned learned for Marcus, I'm sure. I can't blame him for being excited catching an INT, but the first and only thing in his mind should be securing the WIN but protecting the ball.

          Next time Marcus

He was clearly thinking end-zone. That's where he could show the world his back flip! Look out Carl Edwards...Big Pants is in the house!

It was hilarious but it could have cost us the game. I think that is why Shanahan was upset with him. If tampa had recovered an onside kick or their defense had been able to get off the field on 3 downs then they could have very easily won or forced overtime. So Shanahan would have been alot more comfortable being able to go up 19 or 23-6. And like he said Thomas made the pick around the 25 in traffic. He wouldn't have made it to the end zone

It was a great interception by Thomas and you carn't blame someone who never gets mentioned by anyone outside the broncos organization to want some of the glory, but he has got to learn that when he gets a INT or recover a fumble unless there is no one infornt of him then he should hit the ground.

I guess Tim Crowder should have just fallen flat on the ball last year, instead of taking it back for 6.

Well, he used to be a full back, at least according to this article

It could have been worse. At least Shanny didn't say..........

"Sometimes those fat defensive linemen try to pick up the ball like its a half rack of baby backs instead of falling on it, and that's a mistake. You can't do it," Shanahan said. "Pillsbury ain't going anywhere with it. You're too freak'n slow. You're not a running back, you're not a running back for a reason and it's because Ronald McDonalds purple homeboy Grimace could walk you down."

At least shanny didn't say that.

Definitely agree that you can't blame him for wanting to. But the point is this isn't high school football. He gets paid too much to want the glory. He gets paid to go down to the ground if he has the ball. But we won so no harm no foul

                              So?

Crowder showed that he was accelerating away from the players.

Shanahan is a little harsh, even if it was a joke of a sentence.
