  • One Pick - BMarsh or Royal

(NOTE: This article has no correlation with the well-written article by Slostenracing)

Tough times. So tough, you can only keep one of your top 2 WRs – Brandon Marshall or Eddie Royal. Who do you keep?

    The comparison

    Brandon Marshall

3rd year player with some outstanding credentials. Had 102 catches, 1325 yards, 13.0 average and 7 TDs in 07. Could have been all pro. His 08 stats are also very good – 72 catches, 942 yards, 13.1 per catch, and 4 TDs.

    Strengths
    1) Big target
    2) Excellent yards after catch
    3) Physical
    4) Can be “dominant”
    Weaknesses
    1) Dropping some passes lately
    2) Has maturity issues

    Eddie Royal

1st year player, with ROY possibilities. Has 63 catches, 757 yards, 12.0 average and 5 TDs in his rookie season. Also has excellent Kick Return and Punt Return credentials, incl. the following stats:
Kick – 18 returns, 486 yards, 27.0 average and one return of 95 yards
    Punt – 12 returns, 141 yards, 11.8 average

    Strengths
    1) Good routes
    2) Strong for his size
    3) Class act
    4) Multi talented

    Weaknesses
    1) Only 5 ft. 10
    2) Limited "body of work" in the NFL

So who do you pick? This one is very tough for me, because BMarsh is a potential superstar, and has already made a case for being all pro. I think the off the field problems have taken away a bit from his game, which is a shame, because he is a dominant WR. Not just a good one, but a player who has proven to be able to single handedly (that wasn’t meant to be a joke..but take it that way if you wish) disrupt defenses. After year 2, I figured he had HOF potential.

Royal is a different type all together. He is smallish, but makes up for it by his strength. He can run great routes, and he has game breaker qualities. Not only can he catch, he may end up leading the league as a kick and punt returner. And he is smart and professional, which also make him a positive influence.

If I was asked this question a month or so ago, I would have picked BMarsh. If you ask me today, I pick BMarsh by a hair. But don't ask me twice, because I might change my mind. In fact, by next season I may choose Royal for several reasons:
    1) The guy has multiple, game breaker skills
    2) He is a reliable receiver who runs great routes, with speed and surprising strength
    3) He is a classy young man who will be an excellent clubhouse stabilizing force for years to come

    Your turn.....

    Eddie Royal

Royal is great but I take Marshall. I would never let either go though.

May I remind you (per this theoretical thread - which was created by some downer dude from Canada) that times are tough, and you can only keep one of them. You must let go!!!!

Would Royal look this good if he didn't benefit from all the attention that Marshall gets? What if Royal were getting all this attention?

                Make mine Marshall.......

Not a chance. I will get rid of the rest of the defense. They have shown that we don't need it anyways.

I think it is more that he is getting gameplanned for now and he isn't used to it yet. He has to learn a lot more to beat teams that are focusing on him a lot. He is still playing great though.

If you could only have air to breathe or water to drink, which one would you pick. You'd be dead without either one. So would the Broncos be, without BOTH B-Marsh AND Little Casino.

Right now Royal is playing better than Marshall, he's more focused. Plus, he adds value to the Special Teams.
