  • 4 New Rules In NFL!!!

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...s&confirm=true

    Associated Press
DANA POINT, Calif. -- NFL owners have passed four player safety rules for next season. One of them is the elimination of blindside helmet-to-helmet blocks.

    Carucci from owners meeting
NFL.com's Vic Carucci is blogging from the NFL Annual Meeting in Dana Point, Calif., where a number of key decisions and rule changes could be made this week. More ...
The changes came Tuesday at the NFL Annual Meeting.

The new rules state that the initial force of a blindside block can't be delivered by a helmet, forearm or shoulder to an opponent's head or neck. An illegal blindside block will bring a 15-yard penalty.

Initial contact to the head of a defenseless receiver also will draw a 15-yard penalty.

On kickoffs, no blocking wedge of more than two players will be allowed. Also, the kicking team can't have more than five players bunched together pursuing an onside kick.

wow...Dante Hall must be PISSED NOW!!

      No Tom Brady rule?

I guess they decided against it.

I'm awaiting the day when penalties will be assessed if a hit is deemed "too hard".

There's gear and helmets for a reason. I'm all for player safety, but with all the rule changes the last few seasons, the game is really changin into a gentlemens game.

Huge blocks that decleated another player are awesome.

I've played football for six years now, and I've been on both ends. It's a contact sport. Sometimes, helmets collide. The end. Keep your head on a swivel.

The new kickoff and onside kick rules are foolish, too.

Dont play if you're that worried.

Thank you Skywalker for the Marshall sig!

Henceforth to be known as the Hines Ward Rule...

No that will be passed too. Been stated everywhere that it will. This league is becoming a panzy league, players now are gonna be thinking more about what they can do and where they can hit on the field than just playing football. Might as well make it 2 hand touch bc thats the way this league is going.

These rules are just getting ridiculous. Especially the rules for the QB. This is FOOTBALL people. At this rate, in 10 years or so you may be seeing flags around the QB's waste, hell, maybe even EVERYBODY!. These guys have pads and helmets for a reason, and the commish needs to let the equipment do their job, and stop making all these rules because soon i'll question whether or not the use of padding is even needed to play football anymore.

I think the NFL is a bunch of hypocritical idiots.

The SF 49ers win 4 Super Bowls and 3 of them had to do allot with cut blocking. The team likes them so nothing is changed.

The Denver Broncos use the same blocking (which Shanahan learned from the damn 49ers!) and rules get changed.

A few years ago Carson Palmer is injured by a defensive player trying to tackle his legs in a playoff game. Carson is never really the same since that hit. Nothing is done because it is in fact the Bengals.

Last year Tom Brady gets hurt on the same kind of defensive effort and since he is the current league golden boy we are going to change the rules.

I really do not mind some of these kind of changes but I am tired of the league being so one way about the rules.
Time to build on the win and grow the team from some solid play higher level of play

I kinda just wish they'd let them play... stop softening the game up. I'd love a change in overtime rules though!!! I hate the sudden death situation, I really think we should have more of a play the whole quarter and if they're still tied they play another quarter or then they go to sudden death. I feel it's totally unfair the way they have it set up.

Players (especially QB's) are just worth to much money anymore for owners to allow rules like that...

I bet in 10 years there will be red carpet down the right left and center of the field for the offensive players to walk down escorted arm and arm by the defense as they walk into the endzone. No hit will ever be legal soon. FLAGS ANYONE??

Haha thats the first thing I thought of when I read this.

Ward must be thinking "Well there goes my relevance without the football."

No doubt the owners want to see their investments protected and they hate to see a multi-million dollar player down for the season during the first game but what happened to football being a game of hard hits, brute force, decleating tackles, and sheer attitude. If things continue to go this way we might as well be watching basketball.
