  • Tom Brandstater moves and throws like Jay Cutler!?

Check out some highlights of Tom Brandstater in 2007. He looks almost identical in how he moves and throws the football as Jay Cutler in my opinion!

I'm simply talking about his mechanics. He looks like he throws and moves the same as Jay Cutler. I didn't say he was as good as Cutler. But the similarities are most definitely there.

I know, just bustin your chops. Its actually nice to talk about something different. I like Brandstater, is the perfect size for a QB, has the smarts and has a quick release. It will be fun to watch his development.

blasphemy, jay cutler is the god of football. he is the one that all great quarterbacks are compared to. he threw for 4500 yards last season with a very weak pass blocking offensive line and below average receivers. we would have been 0-16 without him.

p.s. if you dont detect the sarcasm, which some of you wont (cough realists cough), then I pity you from the bottom of my heart.

its not just mechanics, you also have to be able to read defenses, stay calm in the pocket, and trust your team mates etc..............

From that video it looks like he...
                  +Makes good, quick reads
+Squares up his shoulders and has a quick release
                  +Decent mobility and good size
+Nice snap and pretty good velocity in his throws
+Good accuracy and leads his receivers
-Needs to work on his spiral
-Needs more leg strength and bulk

Seems like a good project for McD and McCoy:go:

That means absolutely nothing, Peyton Manning has probably the worst spiral in the league. Brett Favre was never known for having tight spirals. As long as they can get it where it is supposed to go, that's all that matters.

Good spiral seems easier to catch

I know very little about QB mechanics but looks to me like he throws off the back foot some. Someone above mentioned lack of leg strength and I see that too I think

I like how he keeps his feet moving

That video starts each segment at the snap of the ball or after so it's better for receiver highlights than QB highlights but

..i'm hoping he becomes the future starter. a late round pick that ends up being a franchise player...we'll see...i'm not as anti-orton as alot of the people on here but i don't see him as the future...

Uh....no. Cutler has much better mechanics, and really drives the ball with his legs. In that whole video Brandstater constantly armed the ball instead of stepping into his throws for some added zip. Also, why did he constantly leave the pocket even when he had good protection? His deep balls look very inaccurate as well. I'm sure McD will fix these things, but obviously the kid has a long way to go, but I don't see anything that reminds me one ounce of Cutler.

I'm not suprised that you'd say that given your name.

Also, Jay Cutler's deep balls are very inaccurate too.
