Kyle Orton is the luckiest QB in the NFL! He has come to the best team possible. Denver has a great O-Line, a much improved run game and a great defense. I'm calling it right now... Vikings and Denver in the superbowl!

i do think 4th in the league for Oline is a joke i mean 12 sacks in one season is amazing for a group of guys who hadnt played together ever.

Our DBs are good i mean Dawkins still has alot to offer i mean he maybe slower but if he hits hard and still tackles well and leads the D like he has in Philli then im happy adding Hill and Goodman is also good they are major improvements over Bly and Manual or McRee as i cant remeber which is SS

The Oline ranking I expected. the DB ranking was a pleasant surprise. How did the rest of the team rank?

Great news on the secondary! What has concerned me this whole offseason hasn't been the secondary, it's the front 7 that I'm worried about...if we can't get pressure on the opposing QB or stop the run, our secondary will get eaten alive...

somebody show you the video of champ covering antonio gates, and watch gates not only catch the ball but he outruns champ. i like champ bailey i thought the trade for hom was good one but he has lost a few steps and he has a cronic hammy problem. the problem with champ is hes getting old and oc are no longer scared to throw his way. also his 10yrd cushion has destroyed his ability to intimidate wr's.

Pass rush or no top half ranking. It's that simple simply because the LBs ARE ok, well, maybe better than ok and the secondary has improved, that's true. But without pressure on the QB..and this is talked about every single year by every single fan and every single coach..even the best DB's can't cover forever.

Only Dumervil has shown a real talent for a pass rush and he needs help or a decent OT can handle him most of the time. Other than him, there are no D-line pass rush specialists.

Even if the rush defense improves, and I'm certain it will under Nolan, hte equation remains; no consistent pass rush = mediocre to lousy defensive rankings.

                    .
With all due respect, I believe the LBs will be the head sackers for 2009, including Ayers and Doom......similar to some of the other big guns in the NFL, like Ware and Harrison. As long as our dline is allowing these guys opportunities and the dbacks are playing tough, I believe they will take them. We should also see some dback sacks mixed in, which was a rare sight in 08.

The big thing to remember in moving to this 3-4 defense? We aren't really going to be asking our D-linemen to make that many sacks now. Their main jobs will be to seal the edge and get penetration up the middle to take away the Qb's pocket.

Our two OLB's whether they be Ayers, Moss, Doom, Crowder, or whoever? Will be the ones who rack up the sacks and QB hurries, etc. To say we couldn't get pressure last year, and that means we aren't improved enough in personnel to do so this year, is not stating the actual case. The different scheme will help some of the same personnel (not that we have a LOT of returning players from last years defense) take advantage of their strengths and abilities in ways they couldn't at their former positions in a 4-3.

You mise well faint dead away then because you have read far to much into this. I didn't see them say they thought we would be good. They said we have a good o-line and secondary. That is 9 of 22 starters.

The secondary will be better against the run because we have better safeties. They won't be better against the pass without the help of the d-line and linebackers. The front 7 has to create pressure or even the best corners in the game will get beat. Look at our first game against SD last year. Champ was healthy and playing good. He still got beat several times because the front 7 wasn't doing their job.

Boy- you have a lot to learn. Lets take this from the end and work forwards.

Our entire defense gave 10 yard cushions even on 3rd and inches...It was not the players. It was the coaches. Or more specifically one coach. Bob Suckmyblowsick. He was/is the worst DC to ever live. He made our players line up that way. Not the other way around. Watch champ this year, see if its any different.

OC- are still terrified to throw his way, even with a hammy and lost a step in his speed, he is still faster and better than all but maybe 3 corners in the NFL!!!

As for gates, i do not remember, but everyone gets beat sometimes. It just a matter of when and how they respond. Champ is the best at recovering and letting a bad play go.

Let me guess, you think Knowshon Moreno was a mistake pick as it should have gone to the defense, right?

You have much to learn young pattawon, much to learn.
                          So far:
                          FA- Melvin Gordon. Brandon Scherff
                          1. Kenneth Murray LB; 2. Shenault WR; 2B. Biadazz Center, 3. OT

chech the tape they were pulling this 10yrd cushion crap long before slowic took over , champ leads the secondary they follow his lead and thats why they all do it, also your wrong about champ being top 3 or even top 5, sorry dorkvader you couldnt be more wrong. and yes knowshon was a mistake because we didnt need a rb especially when the board was full of top 5 defensive picks, not to mention moreno would have been there later. take the blinders off and get off the kool-aid.

                              LMAO!

Thats what i thought you might say.lol. I will show you why, but then i will stop as to not derail the thread any further. Lets again, start from the end and work backwards.

                              1. We have a new QB to our new system, a QB who also is not that accomplished. Like it or not, kyle orton, for the moment- is only an average at best QB. He needs some training wheels. Whats the best way to ensure your QB is ok. A solid run game. It keeps the pressure off the qb and less blitzes. But wait theres more..... Knowshon can catch a pass like a WR, better than some WR, he has amazing hands! There will be tons of screen passes this year to him, as well as the dump off check down passes to knowshon. This ensures that our new QB Kyle will be ok. If the defense is bringing the heat, he dumps it to knowshon. If the defense is respecting the run because of knowhon, then kyle will have all day to pick his target. Do you really think, bucky, or torain would be able to do this....Not a chance.

                              2. Dont say know would have been there later, because he would not have. And he wasnt, and guess what, he was taken at 12 (your age it seems) and thats all anyone can say about it. There is no possible way to know how long he would have lasted.

                              3. What 5 CB would you rate higher than champ that are currently active in the NFL right now? And where do you rate champ. lets see your list

                              4. So tell me then, why do we have a DC coach. If champ just lines up wherever he wants and the other corners follow suit, why have a D-coach? This is seriously, one of the dumbest things i have ever heard. Sorry bro- not trying to call you dumb, but-lol. seriously, the coaches tell the players where and how to line up. Not the other way around.

                              5. The 10 yard cush- when did it start then? Who started it? How did our defense fare, when it started? Why did champ (as you claim) all the sudden start lining up that way?

These are more rhetorical questions, as i think you know the answers dont exist as i already have shot the bs down. But if still feel that what i said is incorrect, please, by all means rebute.

It's about Controlling the Line of Scrimmage

You win in the NFL (and in every other football league) by controlling the line of scrimmage. The Broncos won with Elway/Davis because they dominated the line of scrimmage on offense (they killed the Packers D-line in the Super Bowl). Their defensive lines were adequate and their linebackers were above average. Good enough when paired with a dominant offensive line.

The Broncos took a big leap offensively last year with the addition of Clady, Ryan Harris getting healthy, and Weigman stepping into the hole left by Nalen. That coupled with a mobile, athletic QB made the Broncos look good, and dominant at times offensively. If they could have kept one decent running back healthy they probably would have won the AFC West, even with the worst Defensive Line performance in team (maybe league) history.

The Broncos this year will live and die on the performance of their Defensive Line and Linebackers. Their O-Line will again be excellent, the QB will not be as mobile/athletic (watch them run, Orton is not as athletic as Cutler), but the running backs will be MUCH better.

The secondary is old (every starter > 31), hopefully that means seasoned. They are talented and Champ is still a stud, but age is a relentless opponent.

The Linebackers will be interesting. DJ is a Stud, Davis, Larsen, Ayers, Dumervil, Crowder are all unknowns. I hope they can all play, because if they can't it will be ugly.

The front three are an absolute unknown. No one on this board (or I suspect at Dove Valley) knows who will start in September. Worst case, they are like last year's team, no one demanding double teams and every first hit on a RB occurring 7 yards down field. If that happens, no secondary can save us, and no offensive line can overcome the hole it puts us in. If they can hold their own, and the linebackers can step up this could be an okay defense.

An okay defense with the Broncos' offense will be a good thing. If the D-Line is okay, I can see them willing 8 or 9 games, if they play like last year they could go 3 and 13.
