  • Lindey's ProFootball Preview - Denver

This yearly magazine ranks the best Offensive and Defensive Units in the NFL. Denver's Offensive Line is ranked 4th in the NFL and Denver's Secondary is ranked #2 in the NFL.

Denver's Offensive Line was ranked 4th Best in the NFL - With Ryan Clady , Ryan Harris , Casey Weigman , Chris Kuper and Ben Hamilton coming back , Denver is stacked at Offensive Line.

The Offensive Line only gave up 12 Sacks #1 in the NFL last year

The Offensive Line also finished tied for #2 in 4.8 yards per carry despite all the injuries and no feature Running Back. With the addition of Knowshon Moreno , Correll Buckhalter and Lamont Jordan I can only see this # goine up.

Denver's Secondary is ranked #2 in the NFL with the additions of Brian Dawkins , Andre Goodman , Renaldo Hill and of course Champ Bailey.

    Thanks for the contribution.

Hmmm . . . The O-line ranked #1 in the league in not allowing sacks, and #2 in
YPC, yet they are the #4 line in the league? Something seems amiss here.

But, oh well, that still shows some love, especially with that unexpected ranking
    of the defensive backfield . . .

Yeah I think our secondary should be pretty good this year.

People keep saying how all these additions to the secondary won't help because we'll still have no pass rush or whatever, but you really can't deny how big of an upgrade these guys are over last year's DBs. I think it will make a huge difference in our overall defense.

this has to be a joke, our o-line blocking scheme was zone, that is gonna change so going in thinking we are not gonna miss a step is wishfull thinking, and what freakin secondary are they talking about because its not my bronco secondary. the bronco secondary is one of the worst in the league, and with every wr shredding champ into submission last year i really dont think theres gonna be much change, and adding a 36yr old cheap shot artist isnt going to change things, because we had lynch and he could still hit and tackle just as good or even better than dawkins and we had to let him go because he could not cover anyone so whats change will dawkins have?

If this assessment is correct, you have to figure our defense will have improved significantly, especially with the new DC, and a solid linebacking crew. The dline is the only D unit in question, but you have to figure we're only talking about one or two guys stepping up a little in that area. If so, this defense can easily be in the top half of the league.

As for the oline, you have to figure they were at least 4th last year, and with another year together, and with a solid set of backs, the ranking of 4th is on the low side.

                  It's all getting good!!!!!

we're incorporating the Patriots blocking scheme, but we will CONTINUE to use Zone Blocking...evidenced by McDaniels saying it AND retaining Offensive Line coach Rick Dennison.

You are a downer...you can leave.

Our secondary is much much better but it is true that if we don't get a pass rush they will still get eaten alive.

we will still prolly end up having a D lineman lead our team in INTs for like half the year again, cuz with no pressure means we lose

I doubt we will abandon the ZBS after retaining Dennison and drafting a 280-pound center and a 300-pound guard.

                              uh, no.

Pass rush or no top half ranking. It's that simple simply because the LBs ARE ok, well, maybe better than ok and the secondary has improved, that's true. But without pressure on the QB..and this is talked about every single year by every single fan and every single coach..even the best DB's can't cover forever.

Only Dumervil has shown a real talent for a pass rush and he needs help or a decent OT can handle him most of the time. Other than him, there are no D-line pass rush specialists.

Even if the rush defense improves, and I'm certain it will under Nolan, hte equation remains; no consistent pass rush = mediocre to lousy defensive rankings.
