  • Post game rants---Dallas

Ok I'll give you that the line does need help, but there are young guys on the line that can be coached and still could develop into a solid group. Granted a guy like Raji would have been nice but he just wasn't there.

But the linebacker is another story, I like Rey Mauauga a lot and I was begging Denver to take him but when they passed on him for the final time it got me thinking.

We are pretty deep at linebacker as is. Think about it:

Our headlines ILB D.J. Williams, veteran solid playmaker ILB Andra Davis, Dumervil on the outside, Moss can play the outside (which this might better suit him anyways) We picked up one of the most versitile and coveted DE/LB in the draft in Ayers. Plus let us not forget about Boss who is quick but should be a solid backup, Woodyard an up and coming head turner that will produce for us next year. And finally Spencer Larsen I think we all fell in love with this guys last year with his "whatever they ask me to do" attitude.

Larsen can play, I am from Tucson and got to watch him many times and he is one of those guys who is constantly around the ball, even if he doesn't make the tackle he is only a half a step behind and never gives up on a play.

Anyways when I broke it down we have more option at linebacker than probably the rest of the 31 teams in the league. Linebacker will be fine.

So lets not pigeon hole the front seven. Lets just say its the line. Because we have great depth at Backer.:salute!:

Raji would have been fantastic, but he was gone. So, the Broncos picked by talent and not position.

      1) They can't put pressure on the QB
      2) They can't stop the run
      3) You are switching from a 4-3 to 3-4

With Ayers we have people we can play. We can put Fields Parker or Powell at the NT. Thomas, McBean, Crowder, Reid, Ayers at DE. Ayers, Moss, Dumvervil, Bailey, Reid, Crowder can play OLB. Williams Davis Woodyard Larsen Haggan can play ILB. We have depth with what McD did in FA he set the draft up so we could pick the best player so we could get younger and have time to develop the players with vets. McD is executing his plan to perfection.

Yeah but that can be attributed to the coaching scheme as well.

These guys are young are they all are pretty versitile and they all can be coached. We will just see if they can coach them in the right direction.

They are obviously comfortable with their abilities to turn these guys into the players we need or our whole draft would have been D Line.

We haven't had a pass rush in recent memory and we haven't done much to solve that problem.

            Simple enough?
            Anyone seen Jake Plummer?

The defensive line sets up the plays for the rest of the defense.

Their job is to do the grunt of the work, and occupy the blockers so the linebackers can run around like crazy and make some tackles.

With the line and linebackers working together, they will set up the secondary to be in position to hopefully pick of a pass from a (hopeful) hurried QB under pressure.

              Our line needs work....

Finally, CP to you, I agree, he is creating competiveness on the team and the player will step up and show him they want to play.

We have the depth at Line but most of all backer, and with the draft coupled with the guys we picked up in free agency the Secondary should be improved as well.

Good post for once someone has a logical damn thought on this board.:salute!:

I'm not convinced that we have the talent for an effective pass rush and it all starts in the trenches up front. Denver's old SB team had a GREAT front four!

Raji WAS available at #8 or #9 iand we had full capability of trading up to get him, but McD wanted to use that trading power to move up in the other rounds which was unwise especially the 2nd.

i dont know if people know this or not but our secondary is very weak. it might be worse then our front 7

you have champ and dawkins but outside of that you have average starters in hill and goodman and a couple of young unproven guys like williams, bell, and barrett.

so drafting corners and safteys shouldnt be a suprise

Exactly Just wait i bet in 2 years when McD is still head coach and we are doing great and Moreno is a successful RB everyone will be saying great pick and i think Moreno and Orton are going to compliment each other and our defence is going to be better than last year for sure and it can only get better from there just watch mcD did fine just give it till at least mid season to see what he is doing with the team to critique the picks he made to see how they pan out

Honestly, I'm not worried about our line backers, it's our Dline that scares me.

                          Why?

because the local media brainwashed everyone with their incessant and shrill, but not too educated, cries of draft D only, w/o looking at the bigger picture as to why our D was so challenged in the last couple years--terrible running game.

For example, read Woody Paige today. I guarantee once KM gets into his groove and starts racking up staggering numbers, that idiot will flip-flop back to reason.

I also bet that when reviewing last year's game film, McD saw just how much better a team we were when Pittman and Hillis were starting, on both sides of the ball, and said "hmmmm, what if?"

Denver sports media = part of the problem as to why

I'm really starting to think our D will be a great 3-4.

I believe that Ryan McBean, Matthias Askew, and J'Vonne Parker could end up being a great 3-man line.

Look at their sizes, prototypical 3-4 DLinemen sizes

                            DE McBean 6'5" 290

                            DE Askew 6'5" 302

                            NT Parker 6'4" 325

And they're all under 27 years old,

If they're coachable, they can be great, seeing as we have one of the best 3-4 Dline coaches in Wayne Nunnely

Ehhh, not really until they sprang for Neil Smith after the 1997 JAX debacle. And dont forget: those SB teams also had the most deadly RB/FB combo in the NFL with Davis and Griffith. Every team HATED facing them.

And I have a feeling everyone is going to HATE facing the Moreno/Hillis tandem.
