  • Broncos vs. Chargers analyses

I thought this would be a cool idea to see what people are most worried/excited about going into the huge game on Monday Night against the San Diego Chargers. San Diegoans feel free to post your opinions here as well, everyone should have a say.

    Matchup I'm Most Excited About:

Denver's OL against the front 3 of the Chargers D: I just don't believe that an inexperienced NT will have a chance to stack up against Weigmann the rest of our interior OL. Also, being able to focus more so on Castillo will play into our hands as well, because we all know how disruptive he can be. If we can manage to man-up Weigmann on Nwagbuo/Martin and be successful, it might be a great day for the rushing attack of the Broncos. I would love to see us use more Hillis this week to spell Moreno, he could do a great job of punishing the front 7 of that D in order to soften them up for Moreno to gash with his quick cuts and burst through the hole.

    Matchup I'm Worried About:

Chargers Screen Pass vs. Denver D: All year long, the bane of our D has been that forsaken screen pass to the back in the flat. It worked well this past week, and for the Cowboys in Week 4. Thinking of Sproles running a slip screen in the flat is a scary thought as of right now. It's going to take a lot in order to stop that screen from being very effective, because Sproles runs it so well. But, if we want to be successful in stopping the Chargers, we need to take away the long throw, hold Gates in check, but most importantly keep the screen pass yardage to a minimum.

So, what has you guys most excited/worried?

You hit the nail on the head with the screen pass. The screen pass seems to be our achilles heel, and San Diego is a very screen happy team.

But Phillip rivers also scares me. I'll give props where it's due, and Rivers is a VERY good QB.

But nothing else about SD scares me.

I'm excited about our run game vs. their defense. They cannot stop the run, and we've been pretty good at it. It will be even better if we get Buckhalter back. I see us running all over SD.
Very happy to have Tebow in orange and blue!!!

I'm concerned about what kind of defense will show up this time. The one closer to last year's in the final game or the one against pittsburgh (ahhhh). But I'm hoping the offense plays well, picking up where it left off in pittsburgh after the terrible first three quarters.
        Congratulations...

@ Week 11: Chargers took it.

The fact that we are on the road. We will be in a loud hostile enviroment and the fact that the Chargers are in a must win. They will be hungry and dangerous. We will get their best shot. Oh and Sproles as well as Rivers. When Rivers is on its hard to beat him we have to rattle him early and Sproles well screen passes to him and he's taking it to the house. Hopefully we contain that.

Darren Sproles... or anyone that they can line up in the slot. Yikes... Welker is still beating us down the field.

How many members of this team have beat SD @ SD on this team? That sort of concerns me too, just something physiological like that.

I'm worried about those two easy touchdown passes that Tom Brady missed. Phillip Rivers won't miss those opportunities. I'm not saying Rivers is better than Brady, but the rust showed on Brady and his timing was off with Welker.

I'm worried about that. The defense needs to make sure they sure that up, because it can't happen again.

I'm worried about that as well. The chemistry Rivers has shown with Jackson/Gates/Naanee/Chambers is scary. He has the ability to throw the ball downfield in solid coverage and still complete the pass because his guys go up and get it, and he always puts them in a spot where only they can make a play. It will be vital to our success to pressure Rivers and keep that thought of ensuing pressur in his head to make him think he can't sit comfortably in the pocket for long. We are going to have to blitz a lot more in this game, because if we leave Rivers to sit in the pocket, he will most definetly pick apart our D.

I am worried about: Rivers, Gates, Sproles, and Jackson.

What I am excited about: Playing this defense. They are not New England or Cincy good and we should be able to run on them and in turn, be able to have a successful day in the air. Our offense could potentially have there best game so far in the season.

You are 100% right (or thats how I feel).

We can't go into this game thinking of a easy win (which it might be) they will do everything because they have to Win this week if they have any chance of winning the west.

Now we need to jump up two TD early in the game and take the running game out of their game plan (I don't we would have a problem with the run anyways).

If they pass the ball there will be a better chance to get INT's plus we will keep them off the field with our running game.
                    I will always be a Bronco fan--->

Like some others have stated, I'm concerned about defending the screen pass. That appears to be our achilles heal early in games, and Sproles can take it the distance in a hurry. I'm also worried about the defensive confusion that led to the Watson TD, left Moss wide open downfield behind Goodman, and Welker wide open on a "go" route in the 4th.

I'm certain the defense will put some extra work in to tighten that up, because the only we can continue to win games is if the defense continues to limit big plays.

What I am worried most about is the fact that the Chargers backs are pretty much up against the wall and it is pretty much a "must-win" for them. Go down 3 games to the Broncos or close it to 1. Also the fact that they got embarassed in their last prime-time game against Pitt. So they will have had 2 weeks to prepare for us and be fired-up to not lose another prime-time game, especially at home. I smell another win for us though, in a close one.

I can't honestly say I'm worried about anything. I respect that the Chargers are talented and dangerous, but I just don't think they match up against us. In particular, the chasm in coaching level seems to be pretty freakin' gigantic.
Only fools bet against Tim Tebow.

                            Yards, without points, mean nothing.
