  • Report: Fox To List Both Tebow & Quinn As The #2 QB

Was watching Mike & Mike and they said "according to reports coming out of Denver", both Tebow & Quinn will be listed as the #2 QB on the depth chart to start the season. And that both (Tebow & Quinn) have strengths and weaknesses but that neither one should be singled because of that.

If search the internet and have yet to find anything about this what so ever.

If that is true though, doesnt that seem kinda like a cop out by Fox?

The only way we will know who the real #2 is. Is if Orton gets injured

Why can't they just use the work backups then rather than a number designation. Is that required or something?

and since the odds are against Orton on the being injuried subject, we will probably see who he think is the 2nd qb.....

Quinn holds the same strength that Orton has over Tebow, essentially his ability as a pocket threat.

Tebow holds the same strength over Quinn that he does over Orton, being the out-of-pocket threat.

Two #2's makes sense but does not make sense.

Who comes in if Orton's ankle gives? Will there be a two-QB formation?

I can see it now. Shotgun snap to Moreno with Quinn and Tebow at each side. If there's pressure, give it to Tebow. If there is a strong pocket, hand it to Brady.

My imagination needs to shut up.

On its surface, it's a cop out. If you take Fox at his word, it's strategic.

In the past, the third QB was dressed, but in a limited role roster spot. If he came in before the 4th quarter, the first two QBs could no longer play, so therefore you had to list who your top two QBs were, and who your emergency QB were. That allowed teams to do a little gameplanning for the backup QB, if his skill set was significantly different than the primary QB.

Now, with the rule change, and QBs just holding regular active roster spots, it's no longer necessary to specify your QB rank. So, if were to go ahead and list Quinn 2nd, then the other teams could say, "hey, Orton and Quinn are very similar, we can just focus on Orton," but if he lists Tebow second, they might say, "we better do some preps for Tebows mobility and such, just in case Orton gets hurt."

It's like head coaches that don't want to name their starter until gameday when they have to turn the rosters in. It's trying to get any little edge they can.

Given Tebow's great popularity and appeal, the fact that Coach Fox refuses to name him the clear #2 QB - instead of sharing that status with Quinn - says to me that Tebow isn't the #2 AT ALL. Quinn is. This is strictly a PR move by the Broncos to keep the very volatile Tebow faction of the fanbase from getting out of hand.

Not really, I think it's a good move, focus on football instead of media controversy on were Tebow is on the depth chart.

You are getting flustered again. Maybe Tebow and Quinn are just good quarterbacks.

I also heard that interview and Peter King stated that Tebow is privately saying he can't wait to get new team. Should make for an interesting season.

Fox was put in a tuff spot

1 fans want Tebow to be #2 since he can't be 1

2 players and coaches must feel Brady is 2 right at the moment

If Orton never gets hurt it will never matter so make them both #2 like everyone gets a trophy or ribbon even the last place guy lol

I would have made Tebow 2 cause who cares about bradys feelings . Plus a lot of other reasons I won't get into

Nothing new, Fox has been saying both are the back-up all training camp.

ESPN is just now noticing it because they love to talk about Tebow, and it closer to the regular season.

                            It wouldn't surprise me.

The coaching staff is showing no intention of adapting the offense to exploit Tebow's skillset. The situation is flipped, where Tebow is being forced not to build ontop of his strengths but to reinvent himself altogether.

There are sure to be other teams that would take the opposite approach, one favorable to Tim.

Of course that's how you'd see it.

One could just as easily say that naming Quinn the number 2 would send a clear signal to the Tebow fanbase that he's not ready, and shut them up. And if they were concerned about Tebow's fans getting out of hand, that's what they'd do. You don't keep a child from throwing a tantrum by appeasing him. You do it by showing him who's boss.

tnedator's take is just as plausible as yours, with the added benefit that it doesn't assume the Broncos aren't cravenly caving in to a few disgruntled fans.

                              To wit:
