  • Watching Manning last night actually put most of those worries to rest for me. I can understand the concern but I don't think it's necessary. We can debate the interception till our face is blue but I really think in the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal.

that throw to Decker to convert that third down was beautiful, his touch was still there. I don't think his health is a concern and he has a run game he can lean on.

add onto that you mention QBs with a chip on their shoulder... don't you think manning has that fire in his belly too. year off football the game he loves so much. Cut by his former team. People saying he will never be able to do it again.

I just dont see any red flags or signs that we should be worried.

    • What makes you think that PM is not evet at 90%? Just curious.

      • And what's the point in saying Rivers has a chip, as if Manning doesn't?

        • PM looked good dont get me wrong. He looked about 80-85%...

And still.. an 80 to 85% Peyton Manning is better than most the QB's out there..

And to be honest I dont think he's 90% because he clearly didn't look comfortable to me. He planted his feet and did his job yes. But some of the throws looked a bit rushed, almost as if he had a slight fear of being hit. Which I dont blame him at the slightest. He just seemed not all there yet. I think he'll get it, don't get me wrong.. his touch is good.. The rest just seemed a wee bit shakey

          just my two cents

I think it is fair to say any quarterback who makes it at the NFL level has that drive and fire..

except maybe orton.. he has about as much passion as a sloth.... but that's neither here nor there.

I just find it hard to put a % or quantify something like that... but It should also be noted it was pre season game #1 with a new team.. after not playing for a year. I think by game #3 we will have a better idea of the Peyton we will see on the field.

To be honest, I think Orton had the physical potential.

Nobody can deny that when he was on fire he was on fire.. Granted it lasted about as long as a fire on a match and when he got wet he could never get lit again..

But if he had a fraction of the leadership Manning or even Tebow has, the man would be a starter in this league. Imagine Orton's skillset with a little heart in a good system.

                • I think Manning looked good for 1 series after 19 months or whatever it's been. Who knows how he would've looked if he had time to get into rhythm.

                  • Ball and Moreno haven't shown me anything that says they're gonna be any better than they've always been. Ball can run but he's just not good enough. Moreno still runs like he's engulfed in flames looking for a pool to jump in. He could be so much better if he would learn some patience.

Right now I could care less who gets cut.

                    • I'm a diehard NE fan but I respect PM and his abilities .. considering that he was our chief rival QB for so many years, our nemesis, it is not hard to find people who really hate PM in and around Boston. However, even those who hate him the most certainly laud his abilities and it's more fear than hate, as they are never comfortable whenever 18 steps onto the field.

I've watched a number of games over the years and I did watch the opening series in his debut. To me, I couldn't really spot a difference between the Manning of old and the one I watched. I could see the same looks (the way he gets the defensive players to move off their line) and the spot on accurate throws. What misses he had, I would ascribe more to communication and given time, his receivers are sure to be in sync.

Even the interception couldn't really be called that and if you watch the play in slow mo, you can see it was a perfect throw and very few QBs would be able to make that accurate a throw, except for maybe Brees, Brady, Rivers, Eli and of course, Rodgers. These are his main contenders and the one likely to give him some trouble.

You guys are lucky to have PM and you should thank someone everyday (maybe John) that he's there.

But to be honest I'm still concerned...

Clearly Manning isn't 100%. And that is to be expected. To be honest I dont even see him as 90%, and I dont think we'll see that for a long time. He's been out of the game for a while.. he'll get there. But it will take time to gel.. What concerns me is.. Will we have the fire power to keep up with offenses led by Drew Brees, and Tom Brady? And lets face it. Rivers will have a chip on his shoulder, and thats when those QB's are most dangerous..

Not only will our offense have to click and fire on all cylinders.. We need our D to consistently perform like it did last night.. each and every week... And for Denver? Thats rare to come by..

I'm excited guys.. but not comfortable. Not comfortable one bit.

So you can tell Manning is below 90% from his 7 passes?

Yes with full faith I can.

This is no diss to Peyton. Its sheer respect. I feel that blow 90% he can do as well as he did today.

                          • It means they want multiple olineman being able to play multiple positions, kuper isn't 100% obviously cause he didn't play, manny Ramirez started at RG and Franklin at tackle and I for one noticed they dominated the line of scrimmage. I watched every single offensive play multiple times and the entire oline was digging out that bears defense.

One other thing I want to point out that everyone else seems to be ignoring is Walton looked great!! As well as beadles!!
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

There are 3 reasons to have more than one quarterback on your roster:

                              1) To groom the heir apparent (future quarterback). At this point Os would seem to be the FO’s current choice for that, barring another “Tom Brady” coming to their attention and stealing the show or a better option becoming available.

                              2) To come into a game and take over for your starter. Any number of things can either make this necessary or the best option. Those may include your starter being shaken up, an injury, a death in the family, a new baby, a case of the flu, a bathroom break or even deciding to run a “trick play”. If and when this happens you hope your “backup” has a cool head and is prepared to play instantly and/or at a moment’s notice. Weber seemed to have a much cooler head than Hanie last night “under the lights”.

                              3) It takes more than one quarterback to run your practices. Any quarterback on your practice squad has to clear waivers (not be claimed by another team).

So far, my vote is clearly for Weber over Hanie and I will take that CP bet made earlier.

We will see how it shakes out but I might even be willing to go this far.
