  • Could a Different Denver Franchise Displace the Broncos?

In other words, could a different Denver sports franchise ever be more popular than the Broncos? Maybe the Rockies, Avs, or Nuggets could be?

It's been said this is a football town first and foremost. Very true. I was just curious.

Highly doubtful. Even the Avs during their heyday were a distant second to the Broncos. The only way I could see even a remote possibility is if the Broncos entered a prolonged decline while some other franchise became a perennial contender.

It may sound absurd but if the Rockies suddenly became a dynasty over night I think they’d give the broncos a run for their money.

        100% agreed

If the 96-02 Avalanche couldn't overtake them, it's hard to imagine anyone doing it. Now if LeBron comes to the Nuggets and the win 5 of the next 7 championships or something like that, maybe we might start having a discussion but it would take a historically dominant dynasty for many years for any of those franchises to take over for the Broncos.

To quote Jim Johnston "No Chance In Hell"! (pardon my language) The NFL has become America's pastime now and John Elway put Denver sports on the map. He's a god, an icon, etc. As long as people are around to remember him, The Broncos will remain numero uno. If you ask the average person here in Illinois about Denver sports, they all pretty much know John Elway, some know Arenado, no one knows a Nugget or an Avalanche

baseball is possibly the most boring thing in the world for me to watch. When people talk about how fun it is I cant help but always think about the episode of south park where the boys are trying to lose so they dont have to play it anymore.

Lol ok but living in downtown Denver, this city goes nuts for baseball when the Rockies go on a streak, it’s culture!

Rockies certainly has a chance due to the shifting demographics of the Front Range Urban Corridor and Denver in particular. Denver is a rising tech hub with an influx of millenials, many of whom prefer baseball over the three other major sports. Rockies is well run, has one of the best ballparks in the business with a fantastic view of downtown and the mountains. If they go on a successful run and the Broncos falter, it's not out of the question that they could rival Broncos' popularity, if only for a short time.

That being said, Denver has and always will be a football town.

As for Avalanche and Nuggets. I don't see it happening, regardless of how many titles they win.

Not happening. Denver is a Broncos town. And in thee US football is King!

Variables would have to change so dramatically for it to happen. Honestly do not think that sustained losing seasons could change the culture in the region.

Only possible way is if football in general fails. If court cases and rule changes cause the game to dramatically look differently and lose the passion of the fans.

I’m talking flag football or court rulings that basically outlaw the sport because of its brutality type of changes. IMO not happening.

About as likely as the LA Rams over take the STL cardinals over in STL

Precisely! Avs won two cups, contended every year, had good personalities, a fun playing style, and still couldn’t come close. Game 7 in 2001 had a 25% TV rating in the Denver area. I bet regular season Bronco games do that in a 5-11 season.

I've heard there are sports besides football, just not sure why anyone would watch them.
