  • Sense we never got the 2017 CK, I think JF will be an upgrade this year. With an improving O-line and running game, we should be playoff bound this year. JF may just surprise a lot of people if he can stay healthy. If not, then we can send in the rookie.

Nick Foles would cost too much, he was never an option.

That would be great but most other teams will expect us to cut him now.

Of course it’s always better to make a trade to ensure that you get your guy but how many are willing to do so for Keenum assuming they are open to changing the offense entirely to suit him!

        • A few thoughts.

          Keenum is cut (7M hit)

18.5M - Flacco + 7M dead money = 25.5M budget for starting QB in 2019 (not terrible, but not great)

This looks like a 1 year bridge QB to develop Drew Lock who is now all but a "lock" to be the #10 pick to DEN (if available). Lock is the perfect QB to pair with a Flacco type to develop long term, they are the same "mold".

I was team Kyler Murray, so that is now off the table.... I need time to digest this.

He said only Superbowl winning QB available...I'm not going to argue with you when I was making a playful correction.

Great post. This year denver will have better coaching on most of the offense and Flacco will be given every chance since he won’t have an owner pushing to get the young guy onto the field in crazy wild cat schemes.

                • Elway has a severe case of Shallow Halitis. Everybody and their mother knew Keenum was a used AMC Pacer all along, but Elway just can't help himself with that plan A of his. This time he's trying out a used Ferrari, except it's actually a used Toyota MR2 with a Ferrari body kit.

Flacco is terrible and past accolades mean nothing at this point in his career. We just switched out a backup with another and wasted a fourth round pick in the process.

I'm ready to have a look at plan B.

Because Keenum is a different QB archetype then Lock who Elway wants long term. Flacco is the same type of QB as Lock, they will run the same system.

                        • Nice to have a bit of an answer....if only temporarily. This gives us so many more options with our #10 now. I'm excited to see what Flacco has left. I think this was a great move.

We didn't actually waste a 4th. We traded Demaryius Thomas for Flacco. And we're likely to get a 4th out of Keenum since his cap hit for whatever team trades for him is only $7M. At $7M, Keenum would make a fantastic backup for a lot of teams.
