Getting James back will make things interesting. Right now, we struggle with long developing plays, mainly because both OTs can't be trusted to sustain their blocks long enough for the play to develop. If James can win his share of battles, then we can do more things to open up the playbook. That should in theory help the overall offense.

With Flacco being the most significant personnel change on offense, and every other offensive position group being significantly improved, who deserves more blame than he? He is also set to have a worse individual season than Keenum did for us in 2018 and as a bonus!: also worse ththaththan Keenum in 2019 with the less-talented Washington Redskins.

Realistically, several individuals should share the blame, but Flacco is definitely the biggest part of our offense's struggles. Just like many of us knew he would be.

I disagree with this. The OL is different. Veldheer and Turner was a big upgrade over what youre getting in Wilkonson thus far. Paradis was better than McGovern is, and Leary was not coming off injury. Right now the biggest culprit of our offensive struggles has been OL play, specifically the OTs. Flacco has issues, but he is far from the biggest issue, in terms of offensive issues, he's 3rd or 4th on the list

One thing to think about is the Defenses we've played against. They are pretty stout Ds except for the Raiders.

Not really, as far as QB play against them goes. Three of our 6 games have come against bottom 10 teams as far as passer rating allowed. Chargers, Raiders and Jags, are all allowing an average passer rating of over 95 against them. LA and OAK over 100! We've only played one top 10 defense in that regard, with Green Bay coming in at 5th. The Titans and Bears are middle of the pack, allowing 86-87.

When you look at the other QBs those defenses have faced, Flacco is performing worse than almost all of them against the same defenses. He comes close to guys like Kyle Allen, Josh Allen, Hodges, and Mayfield. In 4 of the 6 games he has fallen short of matching the defenses' average passer rating allowed. Only against two bottom 10 QB defenses, Jacksonville and Oakland, has he actually met their average.

So in some sense, yes we have played some decent defenses. However, most of them share a weakness against the passing game. A weakness that Flacco/Scang/the offense has been unable to exploit and instead, more often than not, they struggle.

This is just not true. The OL is playing above average in the running game and is providing roughly average pass protection.

The "average" pass protection is due to Scangarello playcalling around the suspect pass protection. Short quick developing routes, screens, and moving the pocket. It's one of the main reasons Bolles has seen a big reduction in holding penalties, he doesn't have to sustain blocks for an extended period of time, same for Wilkinson. However, this is also limiting the offense as well. Teams can bring more guys in the box, hurting both the running game and short passing game, also DL who don't win their rush can just sit back and attempt to bat balls, knowing it will likely be a lower trajectory. Flacco's lack of mobility, and his accuracy goes awry at time, but the OL is a big reason why.

Do you honestly watch these games feeling that last years offense was better. Throw the stats out. I feel much more confident in this years offenses ability to score than the previous two years.
