There’s still part of it that bugs me when we are taking on a QB who has played his entire career with another franchise. We haven’t cheered for Flacco since the beginning. As fans, we have no history with him in the league. We know who he is but we haven’t gone through the ups and downs of his career like we did with Elway. Isn’t that what made Super Bowl 32 so special? That was the pinnacle of a career and my peak as a Broncos fan personally. I want our guy. I’m hoping that Elway and company are focusing on 2020 at the very least. I hope it’s not a strategy where we just bring in an aging veteran and take another shot every year. I’m perfectly OK going through the growing pains of a rookie if that means he’s our guy for the next 15 years.
If the trade goes through it appears Flacco will be the quarterback in 2019 - not a Lock because his salary isn’t guaranteed. Elway could draft a quarterback. I appreciate Flacco’s loyal fans providing insights beyond the top-line statistics. If Flacco starts (odds are he will), Elway needs to bolster the O-line to protect Flacco. The hiring of Mike Munchak points to bolstering the line and hopefully the acquisition of talent in the Draft and Free Agency.
Back to the part about being skeptical - nothing wrong with questioning the move. No need for everyone to agree. Long way to go in the process. One thing we have on our side - Flacco gets a fresh start in Denver and the opportunity to prove he can lead the Broncos to the playoffs.

The Broncos have options trading for Flacco but it comes at a higher hit to the cap unless they cut him before the season (doubt that happens). Not to mention losing a 4th round pick. The 4th round pick isn’t a lot however every pick can make a difference. I remember when the Broncos traded DT many here including myself were quite pleased with getting a 4th round pick. Why is a 4th round pick suddenly meaningless?
In terms of using the #10 pick for the BPA, offensive lineman, CB, ILB or DT - all options without trading for Flacco. Trading down was an option without trading for Flacco.
Again, I’m fine with the trade and believe Flacco can help make the Broncos more competitive. At the same time it’s not as if we had to get him to have options. Keenum only had one year left on his contract.

Now Broncos have more money tied up in the position and lose that 4th round pick broncos got for Thomas. I thought the Thomas trade was good. Get younger, dump some salary, build for the future, etc..... But now, all they essentially did was trade one aging declining veteran for another aging declining veteran.

The Broncos scratched out six wins and have all but officially moved on from Keenum.

Comparison to Keenum in with Flacco’s last full season. Both are 16 games.
Last season, when Keenum's attempt number went over a specific number passes, we lost, period. Last year our running game went through periods of being ineffective or under utilized. A big part of this was that nobody in the world respects Keenum's deep arm. He's a noodle armed weakling.
Even if Flacco puts up similar numbers to Keenum, he can lob the ball down field with velocity and make deep throws. Keenum can't. This forces defenses to be honest and will help the run game by limiting the stacked boxes they'll see.
Look at the end of last season the way our run game really tapered off... A lot of that was the fact that Keenum SUCKS trying to throw over 15ish yards.
Flacco's not a great option at QB, but he is an upgrade in our offense because he will have the ability to stretch the field from time to time to keep defenses honest and allow Lindsay, Freeman and Booker to do their jobs.
We don't need Flacco to be a world beater, we need our running game and defense to be strong. Flacco does help the running game because of his arm.sigpic
