We got quality coaching but we still need to get the coaches quality talent or the path to a clean pocket will be a bumpy uphill battle. Even IF we do all that imo Flacco will not lead us to a Super Bowl win.

Flacco is just not that good of a 34 year old QB. He has Trent Dilfer/Mark Rypien/Brad Johnson/Dough Williams written all over his career. At a 10-5 playoff record he is top of that list but imo he will not move beyond that list.

We a QB starved franchise tho so we do desperate things.
Interesting that you reference four super bowl winning QBs in your career comparison.

Unless you mean because they won one and not again.

Until we get a TRUE not name "Lock" qb we will miss the playoffs and be average at best! I'm E2DS and I approve this message! "AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW, NOW YA KNOW."

Well Flacco is a Super Bowl winning QB you know

Imo all QBs on the list were lucky to win one and never would have won a 2nd one outside extreme circumstances....probably won the 1st one under extreme circumstances...not likely that lightning will strike twice
Time to build on the win and grow the team from some solid play higher level of play

Steve Young once said when talking about Orton...all QBs start to look worse when the pocket starts to fail....some just are on a more harsh path of degrading performance than others.

In the NFL people get paid hundreds of millions of dollars to make pockets fail. Being able perform in a failing pocket is part of the job description

          • One thing I noticed when watching back Flaccos games from 2018, he is very comfortable in the pocket, he is patient, and he makes his reads downfield before coming back to a check down, something we haven't had from our quarterbacks here in a while. I also noticed how often Baltimore called for him to throw the ball, he averaged 42 passes per game in 2018, which I don't think that is a great plan to win football games with a great defense and a limited quarterback. I still like this move a week on from it being announced, and I think it can only be positive based on the draft compensation we gave up.

I don’t think Tebow attempted passes in an unclean pocket. Seems like he either took off or just took a sack if I recall.

                • It’s just another middling QB that will get us to 8-8. He hasn’t been that good in about 4 years now....hopefully we still get a guy in the draft.....we need a long term answer there not a year to year 8-8 season type middling QB.....

We'll still get a long term answer. He's just the temp bridge to the long term answer.

                    • The good thing about Flacco is he has had some big games in his career, passed for a lot of yards, Etc.

                      • If you make a short term acquisition at quarterback, I think subsequent acquisitions need to be made with the short term in mind as well.

While draft picks are inherently about the future, they can have an immediate impact as long as you’re not drafting a quarterback that you expect to sit for a year or two.

They shouldn’t be drafting Flacco’s replacement in this draft. They need to draft players that they expect to help the team immediately.

If the team makes the playoffs, they can put off drafting Flacco’s replacement another year or two.

My Opinion isn’t determined by what the Popular Opinion is. Sometimes I agree with the Majority, Sometimes I Don’t. If My Opinion is Different than Yours, I have to Ask One Question:

I like this post. Flaccos experience should steer the ship for 2-3 years and you may get more out of him.

Best case he plays like the snake did when he came over and takes this team to the playoffs year in and out.

                          • I think he will be a solid starter. He's got a strong arm, he can make the throws, he's been in big games, he can get the job done. If we can protect him, we can have a decent quarterback for 3 or 4 years.

                            • He just hasn’t shown any more than middling capability the last few years....so really while his supposed traits are a upgrade over Keenum, his performance has been just as middling, and nothing he has shown the last 3-4 years proves he is a upgrade, answer or a smart move.

I don't disagree, but there are a lot of factors to keep in mind there. He had a back injury limiting play for at least one of those years. He's had a complete and total garbage offensive coordinator. He's had very little in the way of talented receivers.

He's probably going to be horrific here, but lets see how it plays out.
